My name is Eleanor. I received my BA in Liberal Arts from The New School, where I studied Film, Psychology, Creative Writing, Fine Arts, Photography, Art and World History, and French, to name a few subjects.
My tutoring style is very relaxed, and often focused on conversation. I like to get to know my students - learning about their interests, job(s), and reasons for learning English are very helpful to guide the sessions. My students always seemed to like my friendly attitude, and the freedom I gave them to learn from their mistakes. Depending on the needs of the student and their level of English language, I tend to focus first on fluency, then accuracy. The better they can communicate, the easier it is to learn English grammar rules.
The jobs I have held in the past have been very diverse: I worked as a waitress, a nurse's assistant at Stony Brook University Hospital in Long Island, New York, a cashier in a bakery, a sales associate at Crush Wines and Spirits in New York, and most recently as an ESL teacher in Prague.
I'm originally from New York, but I've lived in many different cities, and have recently relocated to Austin. For the last 10 months, I lived in Prague, Czech Republic, teaching English. I enjoyed it very much, and even learned a little Czech myself! Last year, I lived in Paris for a short time studying French at the Alliance Française. I've always been interested in language, both teaching it and learning it. I am also a painter/sculptor, and I want to learn how to weld soon and try sculpting with metal. Other interests include learning about wine, studying the French language, traveling, knitting, ballroom dancing, old movies, and having a fun night out on the town!
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
