About Julie

I'm a bit of a random trivia expert and a "jack of all trades." I've acquired and memorized a lot over the years ranging from Math, Music, History, Science, English and Art. I'm still on my journey of self discovery I guess, trying to figure out exactly what I want to do, in the process, I've gained a lot of knowledge in various fields.

I've worked with children as a tutor and camp counselor, teaching Art, Science, Math and English. I've even done some private consultations as a computer "expert" to help adults setup as well as troubleshoot their PC issues.

I went to George Mason University in Fairfax Virginia soon after graduating from High School. I've also taken community college courses with a focus on Art and German. Learning languages is a hobby of mine as well as learning and reading about Ancient Civilizations.

My original area of study was Biology, Entomology (the Study of Insect Life) and Genetics but moved to English and History which I dropped in favor of Art and Linguistics and Etymology (the Study of Words, Languages and their History/Evolution).

While I'm still figuring out my 'life' course, I would be more than happy to assist you in finding yours or at the very least, helping you head down that path.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have studied the early settling and colonization of the United States with a great appreciation and emphasis on the Virginia Colony. I also have studied the Founding Fathers with a few personal books about George Washington and how he relates to the modern CEO, comparing the USA as a startup. My main focus of study in American History is the colonial era to Civil War.

World History

I very much enjoy history. I spent a lot of time reading and studying about early to industrial age European history. To a lesser extent, I read up on the Japanese, Korean and Chinese as well as the Egyptians and the Middle East. I also have extensive knowledge of the various religions and mythologies practiced of many countries such as the Jade Emperor lore of the Chinese or the Greek and Roman mythological lore. In addition, I also studied the technology introduced from each of the countries such as papyrus from Egypt, movable block press from Korea, gunpowder from China, algebra from the Arabs along with the concept of 0, etc.
