In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I underwent an intensive study of English grammar and syntax throughout university, as well as during my TEFL certification process. I have taught English grammar for 5+ years.
Handwriting can be a challenging subject for children because they are still developing their fine motor skills, so an instructor on the subject should be patient and attuned to each student's learning style. I have experience in tutoring this subject through my home school background. I also enjoy studying handwriting and calligraphy as a form of expression.
I have a BA in English with a focus on literature and poetry. I also have 5+ years of experience in literary analysis and essay writing. Finally, I have experience tutoring in these subjects through college writing labs.
A public speaker has one of four goals: to inform, to instruct, to entertain, or to persuade. Each of these types of speeches has it's own role. For example, one might use a speech to entertain for a graduation or a toast. Or perhaps a speech to persuade or instruct for a presentation. Whatever the occasion, the ability to construct and deliver an effective speech is an essential skill of communication. My goals for this subject will be to teach the following:
-Proper speech structure.
-Research and proper written and oral citation of supporting material.
-Effective methods of delivery.
-Utilization of props.
-Techniques to decrease stage fright.
Public speaking can be fun, and is a great skill to have.
As an avid reader and student of literature, I have spent a great deal of time examining different approaches to reading comprehension. I have several years of experience tutoring K-12 reading in association with the school district.
I have several years experience teaching spelling to learners of all ages. I have also taught reading and writing and have practiced various methodologies which assist individual learners in mastering spelling according to their learning style.
I have years of experience with writing. I graduated from my university with a BA in English, having undergone a course of study that emphasized writing. I have experience with both young and adult learners as a writing tutor in association with the school district as well as a writing tutor for the college writing lab.
