I knew when I was a little girl that I wanted to be a teacher. When I was in 9th grade, the NJHS had a program where members were able to choose a teacher and teach their classes for a day. I choose my Math teacher. That was the day I decided I wanted to teach Math. I went on to get my teaching degree and taught Math for 6 years. Then I was a stay at home Mom for a while. During this time I was asked to tutor my niece in Algebra I. I realized how much I missed teaching and started my own tutoring business. That was almost 16 years ago. I love what I do and I am very good at it.
I work with High School and College students and can tutor anything from Pre Algebra to Pre Calculus. I typically work with students who do not like Math because they have not been successful in Math in the past. I specialize in helping them overcome their Math "hate" or "phoebia" and many times they even start to like Math. I love to watch the look in their eyes when the light bulb comes on and the have that "I've got it" moment. When the light bulb comes on, the fun begins. Even though my specialty is the non math student, I do enjoy the challenge that a math gifted student presents. I have had many students who are looking for an A and turn to tutoring to meet that goal. These are the students who keep you on your toes and stretch you. They too are fun to work with.
I have the experience to be able to explain the material in more than one way to meet the individual's needs. I can help with homework as well as reteaching material. I care about my students and will do my best to help them succeed. I look forward to helping your student to achieve their goals this year in Math. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught Middle School Math for 6 years. I have been tutoring Middle and High School Math for almost 16 years. This includes Algebra I.
I have years of experience tutoring Algebra II. I have worked with both regular and Pre-AP level courses. I help with anything from Algebra I that was not mastered as well as helping with current material. My focus is on the student's needs and their learning style. My experience enables me to teach in different ways instead of forcing the student to learn, the way that I teach.
I am a certified Math teacher with over 16 years of tutoring experience including Geometry, both regular and Pre-AP.
