My interest in becoming an educator dates back to when I was a young girl. If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would say, “A teacher.”
When I got accepted to Texas State University and began pursuing a teaching career, I realized that my strengths are in the disciplines of reading and language arts. Since pursuing my major, I have made the dean’s list in the English department at the university and became a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Because of my aptitude for language arts, I made the decision to become a high school English teacher.
I gained experience working with students at Akins High School in Austin, Texas through an internship facilitated by the department of education at Texas State University. During that time, I obtained hands-on experience teaching and working with adolescents. I also created my own lesson plans and came up with original strategies to use when teaching.

I would love to be the person to give a student that extra push that could make all the difference.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
