Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have formal training and 3 years teaching ACT English through a reputable test prep firm. I scored a 36 ACT Reading and a 34 ACT English.

ACT Math

I worked with Knowsys Test Prep for years. I also scored a 32 on ACT math. I tutored one student in ACT math and she received national awards for that test.

ADD/ADHD

I am GT certified through Region 10 in Texas and I have years of working with gifted students with special needs (ADHD, Aspergers, ETC). I work with students to help them organize their mind and environment to help them learn to focus themselves. I myself have ADD and have had great academic success. One of the keys to working with students who had ADHD is helping them to key into their ability to hyperfocus on things that they are passionate about. Teaching them to find reasons to engage and giving them tools to help them engage are key. I have have a bachelors in cognitive psychology and have 3 years of graduate work studying neuroscience and cognitive psychology. I have hands on training both in public schools (as an on campus suspension instructor) and in preparation for opening my own small school. The majority of he students I work with at my school have ADD or ADHD, aspbergers, or are on the autism spectrum. I have studied Dr Edward Howell and support and implement dietary, behavioral, and cognitive retraining to help students with ADHD reach their potoential.

Algebra 1

I have three years teaching Algebra 1 and experience writing curriculum for both Pre-AP and pull out tutorials for struggling students.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 and tutored college algebra. I have never had a student fail who allowed enough prep time.

Anatomy

I loved anatomy classes, both in undergraduate and graduate school. I was an A student in Anatomy. I lead study groups for physiology in graduate school and I have tutored a student in undergraduate Anatomy to much success.

Aspergers

I have training working specifically with students with Aspergers from my undergraduate research work at University of Texas at Arlington. My son is on the spectrum, very high functioning, and one of my former students from my small in home school is as well. My brother and father were my first introduction into Aspergers and the challenges people with this unique cognitive lens face in typical learning environments. Working with my older brother to help him succeed and learning more through course work and reading I feel confident that I can help students with Aspergers succeed. I use meditation, elements of CBT, diet, and learn each individual's unique needs to help them collaborate with me to find the keys to their success.

Biology

I have a 3.2 GPA graduate level biomedical science, all but thesis paper. I have a 3.8 GPA in sciences undergraduate, including Biology.

Chemistry

I love chemistry! Organic Chemistry is my favorite, but intro chem was fun too! I have experience teaching math, and so the math side of chemistry is no problem for me to explain. I also have experience tutoring chemistry on both high school and college level.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am SBEC certified and have all the credentials required to teach elementary. I have taught elementary on campus suspension. I currently run a small school in my home for gifted elementary and junior high students with special needs. I have tutored various elementary age students over the years working with fluency-- mathematical and verbal--and focus and self esteem. Helping young students engage and learn to love learning is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching/tutoring for me.

Elementary Math

I am an experienced tutor and Certified teacher with 12 years experience. I have taught math at all levels and have won awards for teaching struggling math students as a public school teacher. I was an A student in Math, but math wasn't my best subject in school, English was. I use that verbal leaning of my brain to help non-math people understand math. I use visuals, stories, sound effects and what ever else is necessary to help each student reach their potential.

GED

I have four years experience working with a reputable test prep firm, including the GED. In addition, I am a certified Math and English teacher with plenty of experience helping struggling students reach their desired goal in the GED.

Geometry

I am a certified teacher with 12 years experience. I have taught both regular and pre-AP geometry to much success. I work with each individual student to help them reach their potential utilizing their learning styles and creative approaches.

GRE

I have formal training on GRE test prep through a reputable test prep company. I, myself, scored in the 97th percentile on the exam.

Microbiology

I am passionate about microbiology and gave even worked in a micro (Virology) lab in Denton. I have taken and made A's in nursing micro, advanced micro for science majors, virology, and graduate level microbiology. I am a certified teacher with 12 years experience.

Reading

I have experience teaching both of my children how to read. In addition, I tutored my dyslexic brother in reading comprehension and fluency to great success. I am a certified elementary teacher as well.
