About Lisa

I am a substitute teacher and teaching assistant. I have had experience in kindergarten, prekindergarten, and special education. I have a bachelor degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I attended Western Illinois, University of Texas Arlington to study language arts, and reading. I also began working on Early Education.

I learned how to teach current reading methods from University of Arlington. As a Teacher's Assistant I observed and worked with young children and resource teacher. I assisted the 4th grade teacher in teaching hand writing.

I can use my background to teach phonics. I worked as a reading teacher and part of teaching reading.

I have worked with various students both as a teacher and a teaching assistant. I love to use books and other materials such as flash cards, and hands on activities. I have learned how to use computers with the kids. I would like for parents to be involved.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

I have assisted students in learning how to print and how to write in cursive. I learned the methods from the university and teachers I have worked with in the classrooms. I can use various materials to assist me in teaching handwriting.
