Texas Christian University (Journalism and Art)
Hello! My name is Mehreen but you can call me Mern. I attended Fort Worth Country Day School where I discovered my passion for history, journalism and art. I went on to Texas Christian University in 2009 to pursue Journalism and Art History as my preferred fields of study. I graduated in December of 2014 and helped tutor students at the Oakridge School in AP US History and AP European History before I began work at a media metadata company.
I am currently a medical receptionist at a family practice clinic in Mansfield and am slated to begin a Masters program in Art History at the University of North Texas in Denton in the spring of 2017.
I have a strong passion for educating and sharing information and wish to teach art history or history at the high school level before applying for my PhD and teaching at the college level. I love and have experience tutoring children of all ages in a variety of subjects but work best with teenage and adult students struggling with English, history or government classes. I have a very approachable personality and a "no judgement" attitude when it comes to tutoring. I hope I can help!
I have a major in Art History and studied at the TCU College of Fine Arts where I learned about every genre and period of art in the western canon (British art and the Italian renaissance in particular). I carried out independent research and interned with the International Museum of Muslim studies in order to learn about non-Western art and am well versed in both art and critical theory. I am also knowledgeable of Adobe CS 4 through 6 and often create art myself.
I was an AP scholar in high school and took both AP European History and APUSH and achieved 5's on both exams. I did the same with AP Literature and Language & Composition. I continued to pursue my passion for history and writing in college through independent readings and applying critical theory I learned in my media classes towards my history classes. I have written several papers and my articles can be found online on the TCU360 website.
I am a very friendly and open person who wants to share her love of history with others. I try to match the pace of the person I am working with and make the experience as enjoyable as possible- It is always easier to learn and retain information when you're having fun learning! I have worked with students suffering from social and general anxiety and can tailor my lesson plans and times to whatever my client needs depending on what is most comfortable for them.
I hope we can work together! Hello! My name is Mehreen but you can call me Mern. I attended Fort Worth Country Day School where I discovered my passion for history, journalism and art.
