About Tamara

It's great to meet everyone. I have recently entered a PhD program in Clinical Psychology at Walden University and will graduate in 2019. I obtained my MA in Forensic Psychology here in Dallas; although more coursework and internship work will be required before becoming a licensed therapist, the journey has definitely been worth it. My undergraduate degree was an Honors BA from UT Arlington in Anthropology, so my interests also vary along scientific and liberal arts boundaries.

I have enjoyed being a tutor since high school, though in the past it was rarely for pay. As an undergraduate I ran study groups as a member of the premedical/predental club for my fellow students and was a peer mentor. I was a substitute teacher for the local school district in elementary, junior high and high schools during spring of 2015 as well to refresh my skills working with younger students.

I am detail-oriented and like to fact-check all information given to students with whom I work. My favorite aspect of mathematics tutoring in particular is doing the problems with students until they have the satisfaction of getting the answers independently. Seeing students "get it" is definitely the best part!

Please feel free to contact me for any assistance with course materials. Sometimes all we need is a fresh perspective, but other times rolling up the sleeves and working really hard gets us to the answer.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught both algebra levels as a substitute teacher.

Anthropology

I hold an Honors BA in Anthropology from the University of Texas-Arlington campus. The HBA was conferred in 2000 and covered core topics like ethnography, archeology, biological and linguistics. I also performed McNair Scholar program research in Forensic Anthropology resulting in a research article published in the program's journal discussing the use of skull to face superimposition. American Indian and paleolithic cultures also figured prominently in my studies.

Archaeology

This was an extensive component of the Honors BA in Anthropology at UT Arlington. Both traditional and scientific approaches were studied along with methodology and periods in human prehistory and history. Emphasis on Amerindian cultures provided invaluable insight into North American archeology. In addition, I performed a seminal international literature review on paleolithic symbolism that resulted in studying the symbolic motifs at a suspected paleoindian gathering site. Forensic archeology was also studied during an internship at the old Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.

Biology

I was a premedical biology student in University of Texas at Arlington's Honors College in addition to my major and tutored kinesiology students as well as worked in several biology labs. I also taught biology to OCS students at Workman Jr High in Arlington.

Psychology

I have an MA in forensic psychology and am currently a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology.

Awesome and caring — She responded promptly and was very helpful. She tutored my two kids and in one session they seemed to understand a whole lot better. I will definitely keep her on speed dial for future lessons. She seems very dedicated and caring. ...
