I have had success teaching one-on-one math to all grade levels from elementary-college and that is something I enjoy doing and also was a math tutor at UTA for 4 years. Monica is a really patient tutor. She makes sure her students understands the concept or problem that they are working on before moving forward. We have really enjoyed her as a tutor and my daughter has improved in math!

Monica really helped me understand my trig homework. She provided notes on algebra/trig and helped me with the scientific calculator functions. She asked questions to help me think thru the steps to solve the problems as well. I left the session feeling very confident with what she helped me clarify. I might use her again before my final.

Precal lessons for a semester, usually weekly. She was a huge help in preparing my daughter for quizzes, test, and understanding key concepts.

Since Monica started tutoring my son, his Pre-Calculus grade has improved dramatically. This is exactly what we needed to ensure there were no issues with his upcoming graduation.

Monica was both very patient and positive in giving my daughter clarinet lessons for the first time. She was timely and prepared. My daughter is very shy and Monica was encouraging in giving instruction. We will use her services again.

Monica is a very nice young woman. Our daughter is 13 in the Eighth grade and has never had a personal tutor before. She is passing all her Pre-Ap courses with A's (as usual) but is struggling in her Algebra 1 Pre-Ap class. Monica does exactly as you ask of her and beyond. She stays in contact with you and is fairly flexible with you on the times she can come to tutor your child. Monica is a great tutor and I would recommend her to anyone. Thank you Monica for coming into our daughter's life and helping her improve in Algebra 1, we appreciate you!

Monica tries hard to work with your schedule and is extremely helpful. She doesn't waste time and sticks to the material. She is professional and very kind. She always makes sure you understand before moving on to the next problem. I would definitely recommend her.

I love how patient she is, she is not only easy to understand but she is concise with her lessons. I also love the examples she used by using the key words of a question and she breaks it down into simple form. I think that her lessons are profitable, and could be used in future lessons.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I took this class originally in 8th grade, Mr. Ho's class at Travis. In the end of that year, I was one of the only students that year to receive a high A for the class. He taught us a couple of ways to factor/distribute including FOIL and box methods. Since then, I have been helping my peers take, retake, and remember the subject.

Algebra 2 is almost identical to the College Algebra subject that is required to be taken by almost all UTA students, in which, I tutor those that need the extra assistance whether it be for test prep or enrichment. I have made a sheet that has many of the formulas and processes found in this course, including many of the most common parent functions.

I knew when I saw my brother play clarinet when I was 2 that I wanted to do that. I started out playing his old recorder in elementary school and when I started middle school I learned to play clarinet. I was also interested in playing all instruments but the Bb clarinet was the only one I played in middle school band. I made All City Band and also earned some awards at the Solo and Ensemble competition. When I went to high school I continued on with Bb clarinet but expanded to Eb clarinet and alto sax, still wanting to learn more instruments and music, I played in Marching Band, Jazz Band, All City Band, was in my high schoolâ€™s top stage band, Wind Symphony, all 4 years, and earned more awards. When I was a senior in high school I decided to try out for Lone Star Youth Orchestra that only allowed 2 or 3 clarinets in their band every year and made that band, there were only 2 of us and I really loved being in that band. All during my school years, even in elementary, I have helped other students with their school work, with math and music being my favorites. I decided that I want to keep music in my life and still want to learn more so that is why I am a music education major at UTA and probably will minor in math.

I have taken Discrete Math at UTA and made an A. Soon I will be finished with advanced Discrete Math which I am currently taking, Spring 2015. I have been tutoring Discrete Math for a year in the Math Clinic at UTA and I have been able to help students understand it and improve their grades.

I have had several years experience with teaching/helping elementary students do better in school. I was a PAL in high school where I went to an elementary school and spent time with my two students (1st and 4th grades). We would work on different things that they needed extra help on. The last couple of years I have tutored a few elementary students (4-6th grades) helping them with their math and music. Lastly in college, in the UTeach program, I prepared lesson plans and taught math and science to 4th graders.

This past year (2012 to 2013) I have been in the Uteach program at UTA. In the fall, I taught at an Elementary school for a 4th grade class 3 times. During this time, I learned how to formulate formal 5e lesson plans and in these lessons, we were encouraged to make the Exploration an adventure so they can discover the objective on their own with some guidance from the teacher. This semester (Spring 2013) I am teaching a 7th grade math regulars class, which also takes place 3 times during this semester. I am learning how to incorporate technology more efficiently into lessons.

To summarize, I would say that the goal in my teaching method for elementary math would be for it to be something engaging to the student that grasps their attention enough to remember it as a unique event.

I have been studying music all my life, since before kindergarten to college. I always loved music class and musicals. When I got to middle school I was in band and theater, then in high school and college I was in marching band, wind band, jazz band, and theater -- performing on stage and on the field. In college, I am majoring in Music Education and have taken classes for all instruments, theory, sight singing/ear training, choir, Jazz Techniques, Instrumental Methods, Early Childhood Music, Strategies & Assessment, Digital Music Technology, Marching Band Techniques, Elementary Music, Orchestration, Instrumental Conducting, Music History, Music Pedagogy, private lessons, and more. I have given clarinet lessons and have helped with music classes in all grade levels for field experience.

STAAR math section of the test is a combination of simple to complex Math, Algebra, and Geometry that is given in elementary-high school. I have been successfully tutoring STAAR math since it replaced the TAKS four years ago. I will go over each part of the math test with the student and let them figure each problem out on their own. This will help them understand each problem fully and prepare them to do well on their test. I believe with practice and the right help everyone can do better on their tests and have been able to help students raise their scores.

The teacher for the trig class I took at UTA was the person who suggested that I started tutoring in the first place. Although I would help my peers in class here and there previously, she was the first person to directly say to me to "become a tutor." It wasn't until then that I saw it possible to become both a math and music teacher eventually. For trigonometry, I have made a 3 page formula sheet with all kinds of important info on it including the Pythagorean Theorem, half angle formulas, and the Unit Circle. During the tutoring, we look at homework problems, go over tests, and encourage them to make up their own problems as well.
