Do you sing? Would you like to be able to sing at first sight music that you have never seen before? Do you need to learn a lot of new music? Are you in a church choir or barbershop chorus? Would you like to be able to sing in a quartet and hold your own part? I can teach you that. And you would be surprised how quickly it can happen.

While earning my BA in Music Theory, I was hired to teach music majors how to sight read music. I have also taught some pretty unmusical folks to read all their parts. Some of them couldn’t even sing when I first met them. As choir director for four years, I encountered all sort of challenges. I’ve directed voices and instruments; choirs and ensembles; adults, students and children of all ages. I even taught music in China.

Now I live in Texas, and I’d rather be working with individual adults and college students that want to learn Sight Singing. Does that sound like you? Perhaps you are a chorus director or song leader, but you’re not satisfied with the level of your music reading? Maybe you sing in a quartet or you want to try that? Are you a choir section leader or would you like to become one? I could help you with that! Let’s talk!

Chinese

Chinese

I lived in China for twelve years and took Chinese language classes for five years. I also studied privately with Chinese tutors for many more years. So, I speak standard Mandarin Chinese fluently and would be glad to speak with students. I learned to speak Chinese in classes where the best teachers would not speak any English in class, and that is my practice. Chinese is fun.

Music

Ear Training,

Ear Training

I have earned a bachelor’s degree in music theory and have an excellent musical ear. During my final year in music school, I was appointed teaching assistant to an outstanding senior professor and paid to help music majors that were having difficulty with ear training and music sight reading. I was very good at this and helped these students a lot. Every musician should have the ability to sing music at first sight. As bass section leader of the college concert choir, my ability to sight read music helped the other members of the section to learn the music faster. As a choir director, I could instantly detect singing mistakes by singers and would then sing their part correctly. I believe I could teach anyone to read music at sight.
