Hello Students and/or Parents!

My name is Allyssa and I am a 28-year-old recent graduate of TWU. I have just finished a Master's Degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics and I also have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, with a split minor in Psychology and Philosophy. I have quite a bit of experience as a tutor, and hope to pursue a career as a Professor after obtaining a Ph.D.
I work at TWU as an Adjunct Instructor teaching several sections of Developmental Math, Introductory Statistics, and College Algebra. For the past four semesters I have been a part of the SIT (Supplemental Instruction and Tutoring) Program, and I also serve as the course coordinator for the developmental math courses. I have also worked as a tutor in the TWU Math and Computer Science Center for many years, as well as having attended multiple training sessions through Avid Tutoring.
My teaching/tutoring philosophy is based on the concept of teaching the topic as opposed to just helping to get the right answer. I strive to help students connect the abstract math concepts with real world applications in order to aid in a deeper understanding of the material. My goal is to have students LEARN the material instead of just retaining it long enough to take the test. I am a very patient person, and enjoy finding little tricks and tips to help my students learn.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your math troubles!

Thanks,
Allyssa

Logic

Along with my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, I also minored in Philosophy. Both subjects required multiple classes in which either focused on logic, or dealt with it as part of the curriculum. I feel very capable in my abilities and understanding of logic in a the world of Mathematics and Philosophy, and would even go as far to say that Symbolic Logic was my favorite class of my undergraduate studies.

Great approach, accomodating and very effective

Thanks for being so responsive to our needs. My daughter really enjoyed the lesson and states that a lot of things 'clicked' with your tutoring, the rest is just practice, thanks so much!
