I love to help students understand the ‘language’ of math and chemistry, and aim to foster their excitement in the sciences and build their confidence in learning a challenging subject.

I obtained my BS in Chemistry at Texas A&M, and subsequently received my MA in Organic Chemistry from Boston University. After working for 3 years in industry as a research chemist, my husband and I relocated back to our home state of Texas. After moving back, I worked as a tutor with a private tutoring company helping students in middle school and high school math and chemistry. I also worked at a local community college teaching general chemistry lab. I joined Wyzant in 3 years ago and have been regularly tutoring math and chemistry at various education levels.

While I was at Texas A&M, I had the honor of learning from an amazingly inspiring professor that really sparked my love for teaching science to all ages. I appreciate the importance of a great teacher, and strive to inspire students and improve their understanding. I aim to be a ‘coach’ to students – improving understanding of the subject matter and increasing confidence as well. Through practice problems and explanations using analogies and real-life applications, I hope to improve general understanding of the whole subject rather than just individual parts.

I currently reside in Allen, TX with my husband and two children (ages 3 and 5 years). I have chosen to stay at home with my children during their younger years, and hope to return to teaching once they are both at elementary school age. Tutoring provides a wonderfully flexible option for me, and allows me to fulfill my passion of teaching science to students. I look forward to working with you, and hope that I may assist in any challenging areas as well as inspire your interest in science.

I taught Organic Chemistry lab for 2 years (while pursuing my master's degree) and assisted students both with experiments and helped them further understand the subject matter. Additionally, while working in industry, I mentored new hires and helped further their chemical education through weekly practice sessions. I worked at Amarillo College as a laboratory instructor for General Chemistry 1 and 2 (for 2 summer sessions) and also privately tutored a student taking general chemistry (at West Texas A&M Univ.) for 2 semesters. I've tutored multiple High School and college level students in Chemistry.

Jenn is AMAZING!

Jenn has tutored my oldest daughter (Senior) through chemistry, geometry, algebra, and physics since her sophomore year and has been wonderful! Now she’s tutoring my middle daughter (Sophomore) in chemistry and geometry. Jenn is a wonderful teacher, connects with my girls, boosts their confidence, and helps them improve their grades. She’s like a part of the family to us!!

Patient and very knowledgeable

She was patient and broke down some of the Algebra terms, so I could understand them better. She was very thorough and fun. I found her easy to ask questions and she explains well, in easy to understand terms. She really helped me, and I'd definitely recommend her to others!

"She made chemistry fun!"

That's a precise quote from my daughter who had spent the better part of the last month unbelievably stressed as she struggled to understand stoichiometry, redox reactions and such. Jennifer was able to meet on short notice late in the evening; she was awaiting us when we arrived and within the first five minutes, my daughter was smiling and actively engaged. Chemistry still requires active thought and concentration from my daughter, but Jennifer clearly gave her some key insights into the *how* and *why* behind the concepts. And, more remarkably, she was able to enjoy working on chemistry... helping a student learn in a complex subject is a hallmark of good relationship building in a teaching relationship. Thanks, Jennifer... we'll be back!

Super Knowledgeable. Makes Concepts Easier to Understand. An Outstanding Tutor!

Jennifer has helped me so much even within the short time of me taking lessons with her! Being a pre-medical student, there are a few subjects that were difficult for me in the past, but with time understood them. When it came time for me to take an accelerated general chemistry class and organic chemistry, I desperately needed a different perspective and more understanding. Jennifer helped me so much to understand concepts not only in general chemistry, but now offers amazing help at breaking down, reviewing, and overall tackling organic chemistry. I was so afraid to even open a textbook because problems seemed so intimidating, but with Jen ensuring I understood concepts, and thoroughly explaining the "why" questions so many students have, I have much more confidence with the subject. I definitely will continue to take lessons and recommend Jen!

Amazing

She made things so easy to understand. She made things relateable and visual for me. I didn't think I would ever get chemistry. I made a 20 point difference in my tests after our first session.

My son looks forward to his sessions

My son is now excited about doing homework. His confidence shot up with just one session. He's excited about the next one. He feels like this is what he was needing to understand his math subjects better.
