About Suborna

I am a practicing pharmacist with an aptitude for teaching. My subject of interest is pharmacy calculations for pharmacy technicians taking PTCB/PTCE Board Exam and nursing students.

If you are struggling with pharmacy calculations, I can definitely help you overcome stress and learn some basic formulas that apply to a majority of these calculations. Strong background in basic math can go a long way when it comes to pharmacy calculations. I can evaluate your math skill first to find out your strengths and weaknesses. Once we know what areas to focus upon, we can get into sample questions in that topic to strengthen your skills.

I can help you learn the roman numerals, metric systems, conversions between metric, household and apothecary system, Celsius and Fahrenheit conversion. I can also help you learn Clark's rule, Young's rule, Fried's rule, long word problems, quick abbreviations found on prescriptions, decimals, fractions, ratios and proportions, military time, reconstitution, drug dosage based on body weight, body surface area and age, interpreting medication dosage in percentage and ration strength, calculation of intravenous flow rates per minute, macro and microdip, interpreting the amounts of solutes in intravenous fluid, calculating intravenous infusion time, calculating weight in weight solutions, weight in volume solutions, volume in volume solutions, calculations involving dilution of stock solutions, calculating medication dilutions using alligation, and many other related topics in pharmacy calculations.

I have received the National award called the "Texas Excellence Teaching Award" in 2007 for teaching third and fourth year college of pharmacy students in the University of Texas at Austin. I have taught them pharmacy administration, communications and ethics. I received my Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. I love to teach.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Pharmacology

I am a practicing pharmacist with over 16 years of experience. I have bachelors of science degree in pharmacy. Pharmacology was part of our curriculum.

TOEFL

I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in the College of Pharmacy. In order for me to be admitted to the University, I had to take TOEFL myself. I scored over 600 in TOEFL.

I have helped many foreign students with this test. I have helped them improve their reading and writing skills. I am good with structuring and writing essays.

My listening comprehension is good, I have to take care of many patients simultaneously in my practice and must have good comprehension.

My tutoring method includes encouraging students to do practice TOEFL tests on a routine basis. Once someone completes some practice tests, they can identify the areas they are weak at- it can be reading , writing or listening section. I have them practice under the actual time permitted in the actual test. Many student do not do well in TOEFL since they do not practice against the allowed time.

After finding the students weak areas, I reinforce detailed learning and practicing in those areas.
