Greetings!
I received my master's degree (with distinction) in Education from Hofstra University in 2005. I have been an active professionally licensed ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science elementary school teacher in New York City -- and now, East Tennessee -- since 2006.
I hold additional certificates and concentrations in Childhood and Gifted Education, Chess Education, Coaching, Mentoring, Fundamentals of Cognitive Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Piano, General Music, and Music Theory.
Therefore, in addition to academic tutoring, I am an experienced chess instructor, a teacher of music theory, a vocal coach for choir and chorus part rehearsals, piano teacher, certified life coach, mentor, and career coach. I have tutored in all these areas and more on Wyzant's platform as well as privately, and am currently accepting new online students, now and especially for summer sessions and intensives. Regular summer sessions are a great way for students to catch up in preparation for the school year ahead, or to support their efforts in summer school.
In addition, my sessions and topics can provide support and enrichment for homeschooled students.
I work with students on all levels, from physically or learning disabled to gifted, young adults, retirees, seniors, and any combination thereof. Lessons are geared to what YOU need to work on, and I will be happy to connect with you on your current level, whatever that may be.
I continue to receive rigorous training in teaching all elementary ELA and Mathematical skills, and in administering test prep for the common core. In addition, a decade of staff development from Columbia University's Reading and Writing Project make me a particularly ideal candidate to assist your child move forward in all aspects of literacy.
I've included chess as part of my class curriculum since 2007. I've facilitated the growth of my students' chess strength for individual and team tournaments, and for their own personal enjoyment. Online chess lessons are very fun and engaging for my students!
I've been teaching music theory and piano lessons formally since 2003 and am comfortable choosing from a variety of methods to best suit each individual client, from elementary pupils to college students. Be it a required general music course of any kind, early theory class, or keyboard classes, feel free to contact me. For piano, most frequently, I use Faber and Faber, Alfred, and Music for Little Mozarts, although many other approaches can also be also in the mix as needed, including a college student's own materials as needed. Again, I can also help you with your choir or chorus music and focus on your part so that you are better equipped for your next rehearsal. We look at the music together online, and I will play through your part and/or offer many practicing strategies.
Before I changed my career to become a teacher, I worked as an advertising and production manager for an international wholesale corporation. I managed all training and departmental staffing needs, including the review of all incoming cover letters and resumes, and interviewing and selecting staff from my chosen candidates. I am a certified coach and offer resume and cover letter assistance, career guidance, and interview tips to move you towards your next job and/or profession.
In addition to my full-time career, I have been tutoring and coaching online since 2012, and I love the convenience it offers for the students and their families, and the immediate availability of shared technology to enhance our sessions. I work with all ranges of students; at risk, gifted, physically disabled, learning disabled, and more.
You will find me to be very patient, upbeat, and encouraging. Everyone works at a different pace, and I easily adjust to yours. My first goal is to make my clients feel comfortable by establishing a rapport so that they will be ready to learn, and next to set SMART goals and a plan to move forward. Let's make an appointment! I'd love to hear from you so that we can get started soon to support your specific needs and goals, and to develop and enhance your love of learning.

My upbeat and caring career and personal coaching helps candidates construct and move through individualized game plans to reach improved career/personal goals. My focus is on working with those changing their careers and/or lives, returning to school, and in mentoring educators. Before changing my own profession to education, I was a manager in the corporate world in NYC where I interviewed and hired after sorting through hundreds of resumes and cover letters for the best-qualified candidates. I am now a licensed educator, a certified life coach (Coach Training Alliance), and hold certificates in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Massachusetts General Hospital) and Mentoring (New Teacher Center). Let's schedule our first meeting where we will immediately start to assess the quality of your cover letters, resumes, interviewing strengths and challenges, identify the right career for you (if you are looking for a change), plan out your return to school (if desired or necessary), and identify goals and next steps. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have enthusiastically taught private piano lessons professionally since 2003. Having taken many years of lessons from a concert pianist, I hold a concentration in music and served as a pianist for a church orchestra, played with and organized a praise team for ten years, and was a part of a Christian band who recorded two CDs. Piano lessons online are FUN and engaging and as you will see, provide opportunities at our fingertips that in-person lessons just don't allow. The beauty of Wyzant is no matter where you are located, you can have a certified and top-notch teacher working with your children in your own home, offering the latest technology, with no disruption or transportation necessary. Let me be the one you choose! I am a certified elementary teacher who loves teaching the playing and reading of music, theory, technique, and performance. My music curriculum is usually the Faber and Faber method, but I will adapt to a student's individual needs and goals. During our first lesson, we will talk about your goals, and make a game plan that will work for you. Piano lessons can last 30 or more minutes (depending on your needs or preferences) I have online availability on weekends, possibly some weeknights, and look forward to hearing from you to schedule your first lesson soon so you can see how well this works!

Chess lessons should be FUN, and with me, they are! Thanks to today's technology, chess lessons were really made to be given online! No more wasted time (and your money) spent on setting and resetting boards, as I will present puzzles, games, and points of entry immediately at your fingertips. In addition to my one-to-one instruction, we will both enjoy watching you play your own 5-15 minute live games online with other students which we can immediately professionally analyze afterward onscreen to help you replay and understand where you can improve, thanks to my software that you will see on my shared screen. We'll "go to the movies" and watch fun instructional videos which I am able to provide special access, on a great variety of chess strategies. And, as one of my students, at no extra cost, you will have 24/7 access to practice your chess in a kid-safe zone as one of my 100+ chess students. In addition to having earned a certificate in Chess Education, I run my school's chess club and have used chess to enrich my elementary curriculum since 2007. I have taken my teams to win local tournaments and taught chess privately. Many high-level recommendations are available. Come join me and let me guide you to success in the most exciting land of Kings and Queens!

Knowledgeable, patient and very friendly tutor

Victoria G. is tutoring my son who is in the 5th grade, on grammar and writing skills and he is doing so much better in these areas since he started these sessions. Victoria G. explains the information in detail and in a manner that is easy for my son to understand. He likes the interactive sessions because Victoria makes it enjoyable at the same time that they are touching basis on other fundamentals such as spelling. We surely recommend Victoria G. as a tutor and would recommend her highly.
