I am a certified teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. I have taught in a variety of settings including middle school, adult high school, GED, and non-traditional schools. I have worked with a variety of age ranges from 5-65. I enjoy teaching very much because of the student's excitement when they "get" something! I enjoy helping students understand topics and I like to use a variety of strategies when teaching. There are all kinds of ways to learn how to remember things, and differentiating instruction is easily done in the tutoring environment.
I specialize in test taking strategies, study skills, writing, grammar, and teaching the necessary skills to pass the GED test. GED subjects include: English, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Math (fundamental math, decimals, fractions, percents, algebra, geometry, and overview of the higher level math skills including word problems), and the Writing portion which is writing an essay.
I am friendly, upbeat, positive and encouraging. I will work just as hard as you will to achieve your goals. I encourage feedback from you, and I will give you feedback, suggestions for study/homework, and outline a plan of action for you. Because I plan for our tutoring session, I do require a 24 hour cancellation notice. For extenuating circumstances, we could work together to confirm a make-up session. If you feel that we would be a good match, please contact me! I would love to help you achieve your goals! I am a certified teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. Tifni is very professional, on time, flexible with scheduling, and responds quickly to messages. She is knowledgeable about content area; she tailors lessons according to students needs and develops a plan to build on them. She demonstrates a positive attitude and is very encouraging. Tifni was greatly helpful in my goal to pass the praxis core writing test. I would highly recommend her!!
Thank you so very much, Chris! I have enjoyed working with you and I appreciate your hard work. You've made great progress and I have confidence you'll reach all of your future goals.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified teacher with 16 years of experience. I am certified to teach grades 1-8. My master's degree is in school administration k-12. I enjoy working with elementary school students and feel that I could help them reach their full potential.
I have neat handwriting myself, but I have also been trained in it. In college, handwriting was a required course in the educational program to teach in elementary school. I learned both manuscript and cursive style.
I have always enjoyed public speaking. In high school, I competed in local, state, and national prepared speech contests. (I placed 1st in local and state, and 14th in the nation). In college, I made an A in the public speaking course. Being a teacher, I was always in front of an audience: students, parents, colleagues, etc. I believe I can convey concepts of speech and public appearance during tutoring sessions because of my experience and love of public speaking.
I have 16 years of teaching experience and I have worked with all ages of students, from kids to adults, and even senior citizens. I have training in teaching reading and experience teaching main idea, pre-reading strategies, and active reading keys. I love to see students achieve success in reading because it helps with many other subject areas and is used in everyday life.
When I was in college, I had to take a required class about tips to succeed. This course included note taking, strategies of taking tests, study skills, and organization. I also worked as a graduate assistant at ETSU in a program that assisted students with learning disabilities. I helped many of those students with skills stated above.
I love teaching writing! I feel like I can break it down into sections to make the daunting task easier. I have taught young adults how to prepare for the GED test, which requires a well written essay. I have also assisted aspiring teachers with preparing them to pass the Praxis Writing portion of their test. I have many tools to help with making writing easier.
