University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Biochemistry)
My name is Yesica G. I was born in Mexico and moved to Tennessee in 1998. I graduated from Sweetwater High School in 2012. After high school, I attended Cleveland State Community College at Cleveland TN. There, I was enlisted in the Phi Theta Kappa honors society and was treasurer for the Chemistry Society. I graduated in 2014 with an Associates of Science, and transferred to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Currently, I am a full-time student at UT and pursuing a bachelor's in Biochemistry - Cellular and Molecular Biology.
I have been scheduling study sessions at UT since my first year there. Usually, I get about 10 people each study session. Right now, I have 3 study sessions, where we teach each other methods that we don't understand fully or that we need to review for exams. What I like about tutoring is that not only does the person who is receiving tutoring learns but I also get to understand the material better. As a student, I know how frustrating it is to not understand a concept and it helps to hear it from another person explain it in their own terms.
Biochemistry is my major in college and I have taken half of the courses that I need to take to graduate. I've taken the following classes thus far: Chemistry 1 & 2, Organic Chemistry 1 & 2, Biology, Biochemistry, Skills for Biological Investigations - Lab, Organismal and Ecological Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Cellular and Molecular Biology. Currently, I am taking Microbiology and Genetics. Anatomy and Physiology are the most interesting courses I've taken in college! I still have all of my notes and lab books for them.
Not only will I tutor for science but also for college in general; especially, test-taking skills. College is a big step for many individuals, and can sometimes be confusing and challenging. My older siblings guided me through the process of choosing a college, the pros and cons, and random tips that helped me tremendously. Sometimes it is better to hear it from a person that has gone through it, and continues to prosper. I am willing to advise anyone on any of the above! My name is Yesica G. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently taking Microbiology.
