About Amanda

I am an experienced tutor with diverse knowledge in a number of subject areas from pre-kindergarten through University-level coursework. In the past 15 years, I've worked with dozens of families one-on-one and hundreds of children in the classroom.

I have a background in Child Psychology with an emphasis on Reading Comprehension and Language Skills Acquisition, and 6+ years of experience in Montessori Education.

I believe that organization and structure are key to creating lasting success in school, but I also endeavor to present interesting lessons which teach relevant material in everyday life. And I have a gift for getting through to "difficult" children and teens (including ADHD).

I am passionate about helping students of all ages and abilities advance their educational objectives. I can help you or your child develop better study skills, refine educational or career goals, prepare for standardized tests, apply for college, or fill out scholarship and financial aid applications.

You can be certain that I am a safe, dedicated professional. If you're looking for an experienced tutor to help you or your child learn the skills necessary to be successful in school and in life, then I'm the tutor for you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have 3+ years doing research into Reading Disorders with one of the premier research scientists in the nation. We studied reading comprehension, language skills acquisition, working memory, fluency, and phoneme-grapheme integration.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have more than 10 years of experience tutoring children from Kindergarten through the 6th grade in all subject areas. I also have 3 years of experience performing research in reading comprehension and language-skills acquisition for elementary-aged children, which has given me a solid foundation in the learning-patterns of successful elementary-aged students.

I believe that elementary school is the most important time for students to develop strong study-skills and a passion for learning as a foundation for later coursework, and I strive to provide positive reinforcement as often as possible with elementary-aged children.

Most of all, I believe that elementary-aged lessons should be educational, hands-on, and fun!

Study Skills

I have more than 10 years providing on-on-one and group education in study skills for all ages. As a tutor, I have provided information on organization, accomplishing educational goals, having long-term plans, and keeping a schedule. As a college and career advisor, I work daily with high school students one-on-one and in classroom groups to enhance study skills and foster educational attainment.
