Middle Tennessee State University (Studio Art)
I was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and have traveled all throughout the United States and Europe and have seen a lot of different art in my travels. I graduated with a B.F.A. in studio art with two minors, one in philosophy, and the other in illustration. I am a two dimensional artist who is still working and showcasing my work locally and internationally. My specialties include drawing with a multiplicity of mediums, oil painting, and any work involving the human figure. I recently had a solo show at Hannah Lane Gallery in Nashville, TN showcasing my life size graphite and charcoal drawing of the human figure.
I like teaching simply because I have a strong desire to learn. As a graduate in art, I understand the value of hard work and how it can pay off. I have fairly relaxed teaching methods and find that a personable teacher is the most effective because it is the most effective for me. This philosophy does not interfere with learning. I have been drawing and painting for seven years now and I am constantly pushing myself to be better and see things differently. This makes me a better teacher because I am always learning and making drawings in my free time.
I worked for three years in a disabled students lab and helped students learn. I also made learning material accessible for them. Working with these people helped me figure out different ways of communicating for each individual student, and this helped me to adapt to the individual. For example, I helped blind individuals with math on the computer. I had to figure out new ways of communicating to them the problems on the screen, as well as help them trouble shoot any additional problems.
In each session, my goal is to keep the student tested, but not flood them with too much information. My goal as a tutor is to help the student to see and think like artists through teaching them what to look for when drawing and painting, as well as applying basic technical skill. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in drawing because I have been practicing it for seven years and still practice everyday. I have had local and international group shows, as well as a solo show. I have a degree in art and it is my first love and passion.
As a painting instructor, I paint everyday in order to better my own abilities, and then be able to teach this to students. I have a degree in fine art, with a concentration in painting, and have been painting and drawing for seven years. I have a relaxed attitude and teach as many technical aspects of painting as possible.
