Hello. I am presently reviewing for the MCAT, the Medical College Admissions Test, and I have some spare time between my reviewing. This gives me some free time to be available to tutor. I have been teaching off - on for about 21 years (since 1992). I have been a tutor for 14 of those years. Much of my tutoring was within the East Tennessee State University Athletic Department, in Johnson City, Tennessee, for a couple of years - 1997 to 1999. I was also a private home tutor in the same area from 1995 until 2000. I began teaching here in Nashville in 1992. I continued substitute teaching off - on through 2006.
I have been in the United States Army since 1999, June. I am now in Active Reserve status. I teach the youth at a local church congregation and about 4 times a month, I volunteer some of my time at a local Community Centre. When I volunteer, I am usually assisting students with their homework and class assignments. Lately I have done a great deal of English grammar and General Mathematics. However, I enjoy teaching 5th through 10th grade Mathematics and the Sciences. I enjoy tutoring College / University Freshman-level Math and Science as well.
The ability to tutor requires a type of character in which the tutor and tutoree are able to sort of "mold". I enjoy tutoring because I like to see a person grow and become more confident and focused in the subject matter. I am extremely approachable and I love to deal with people "where they are".
I am capable of "feeling" the subject matter, as I am quite a Math person myself. I have taken all Mathematics up to Calculus 2. The work that I do in the military actually deals with numbers and logistics.
I am preparing to be a physician one day and it is a dream that I have been trying to attain for several years. Now that I am not on Active Duty in the military, I am able to focus on some of the passions that I have. one of those passions is the study of the body. I have had 2 years of Biology, 2 years of Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, and I am an Assistant Medic in my Army Reserve unit.
Most of my life I have always had it very easy when it came to Grammar and the Language Arts. I had the Honors English classes in High School and I graduated with honors within my class. Presently, I attend a Korean congregation church and I know that it is difficult for the students as they learn the American English language. I actually speak a few other languages and so I understand first-hand the difficulty that is posed by grammar within a language.
I may be reached at ANY TIME. Do not be afraid and ALWAYS ask questions. PLEASE call on me for help, because I was once in need of tutoring as well. :-) Hello. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I like Algebra because it is necessary for all of our sciences. My background in Physics and Chemistry allows me to do well in tutoring this subject. I tutored college students for about 4 years in this subject.
I am now preparing for entry into Medical University. Biology requires much reading and some memorization. I am good at getting the student to commit to memory much of the needed material. I set them up for high passing grades.
I know that Mathematics can be very intimidating even at its lowest levels. Elementary Math is one of my strongest subjects that I enjoy tutoring. It is a basic foundation of math which I enjoy encouraging students to be confident. I was an A student in this subject many years ago.
I speak 3 other languages other than American English. I know, firsthand how important it is to know grammatical structure and how to apply it. I often get students to do several drills and I get them to do it with confidence.
