About Sage

I earned my BA from Yale University and MA from Brown University, focusing in the humanities, and have been teaching for over a decade. I’ve given a lot for my education, but it’s given me more in return: opening endless opportunities to interpret, interact with, and contribute to the world. Some highlights including teaching as a section leader at the Great Books Summer Program at Stanford University, leading a year-long music history course at an alternative high school through a grant from the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts, and running and designing educational programming for the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and Yale Art Gallery.

Whether making standardized testing less stressful, college essays personally meaningful, or history relevant, my teaching aims to help students of all ages tap into the power of education for themselves. What do they want to experience, understand, and create, and how can I use my educational expertise to support their goals?

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I have a BA in the Humanities (meaning intellectual, political, and art history, focusing on ancient Greece and Rome) from Yale University and a MA in American history (focusing on music history) from Brown University.

I have also worked as a history teacher at a vocational high school for two years, literature and history teacher at the Great Books Summer Program at Stanford for two summers, and done public programming and curatorial work in history and art museums for more than five years, including at the Yale University Art Gallery, The Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and the Chautauqua Institution. In all my lessons--whether teaching about vases from Ancient Greece or urban planning under Mussolini--I always strive to make history come alive for my students.
