About Cindy

Hi,

I'm Cindy and I'm available this summer as a math tutor, chemistry tutor, and more!

I'm currently an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University studying Mathematics and Chemistry. In high school, I tutored fellow peers in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, and Calculus and it was one of the most rewarding experiences that I've had. Using the knowledge that I had accumulated from past teachers, test preparation, and practice and passing it on to others felt like a duty of mine; the incentive came in that moment when everything clicked in the student's mind and they experienced an "a-ha!" moment. All it took were different approaches to a problem and an eagerness to seek the light at the end of the tunnel.

Math has always been my favorite subject and luckily, my strength. I am working towards a B.A. in Mathematics so I have taken a math course every year of my life and have built a strong foundation along the way. I understand concepts very well so I know important points to bring up as well as places of "caution" in application problems. I'm happy to work out problems for a student but prefer to explain concepts first, determine a route of action, and provide helpful pushes so that in the end the student is solving problems first-hand.
Chemistry is one of my favorite subjects. For me, it is where common sense and reason can truly become successful because the explanations behind many concepts are based on basic points. I took AP Chemistry in high school and General Chemistry in my first year of college, so I've learned all the basic concepts and have reiterated them through another year. I love to tutor in Chemistry because, like I said, every concept, no matter how complex, originates from a basic point and so I can help students take a step back to what they know and then guide them through the reasoning.

I've been playing the piano for about 12 years with taking private lessons, performing, practicing, and playing for fun. I've built up enough technique and experience to play and perform classics, like those of Mozart, Debussy, Chopin, and more.

I am comfortable with giving lessons to students who are anywhere between the beginner and beginner-intermediate level.

As of now, I online-tutor but I am eager to meet in person and tutor! Please don't hesitate to send me a message to chat and hopefully set up a time and place where we can meet.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
