The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Nossi College of Art (Visual Communication)
As an artist and teacher I have always enjoyed encouraging others and helping them to uncover their (sometimes)
hidden talents and creativity and playing a part in bringing the joy of art and personal expression into their lives. I believe that part of what makes someone an excellent educator is a love of their discipline and a strong background of experience in their field. With approaching 20 years as a professional working artist I have a wealth of experience in the Visual Art / Graphic Design field that I feel privileged to be able to share with my students.
In addition to my practical work experience I also have an Associates degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and BGA (Bachelor of Graphic Arts), Magna Cum Laude from Nossi College of Art. My work has also received multiple awards both nationally and internationally such as American Advertising Federation (ADDY) awards and an international Adobe Achievement Award.
In addition to the educational qualifications above I have a uniquely varied blend of skills of both traditional illustration (a variety of mediums, various paints, pen and ink, screen printing, etc.) as well as a great variety of layout and graphic illustration software (the entire Adobe suite, QuarkXpress, Painter, etc.) I have taught courses in all and some that blend both traditional and digital disciplines.
My schedule is fairly flexible and I am glad to travel to students. My current base rate is $55/hour.
I look forward to hearing from all of those budding talents out there! As an artist and teacher I have always enjoyed encouraging others and helping them to uncover their (sometimes)

Tracy was wonderful during our session. She really explained the illustration process in a way that was easy for me to grasp. I'm looking forward to the next!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began my art training as an illustrator with concentrations in pencil drawing, pen and ink, water color painting, acrylic painting and oil painting while in high school. My specialty was in portrait illustration. After completing all possible courses available to me I became a teachers aid in my Junior/Senior year. I then went on to earn a degree in Visual Communications from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh (1997). My concentration was in graphic design and illustration as well as a later Bachelor of Graphic Arts degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Nossi College of Art. As a working artist I have been a published illustrator with clients such as the Discovery Channel and a variety of other clients.
