About Melanie

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn about how I may be able to assist you! For over 25 years, I have worked within business (Operations & Human Resource Management) as well as serving within training and teaching capacities, primarily from a community service perspective. I have worked with special needs children for nearly 24 years. My undergraduate training is within business management, human resources, psychology, sociology, and astronomy; all at the honors course level. My graduate work is within psychology, pharmacology (as it relates to physical and mental health responses), and seminary Biblical studies. Within business, I have completed contract work (typically operations or HR related projects) with many major corporations such as Microsoft, Oracle, Google, and Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Within a teaching capacity, I have experience homeschooling, teaching children and adults within community settings (volunteer within public schools, non-profit assistance, churches, and those incarcerated), and working specifically with children with learning differences (i.e. ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, gifted). I also have experience as a subject matter expert content writer.

I am a mother and grandmother, enjoy focusing on positive and healthy lifestyles, and am dedicated to the education and betterment of others. Currently, I homeschool my son (5th grade), and work as a freelance content writer for major online job boards. I also serve in my local community as a Certified Community Service Chaplain; trained in crisis, trauma response (working toward FEMA certification), individual and family counseling, and benevolence support. I also teach court-ordered classes to convicted offenders through my local court system, and I teach topics relating to job skills, resumes, and interviewing through a local non-profit agency.

My graduate studies include seminary. I teach middle and high school children on a weekly basis within Biblical studies. My approach is "let's get real;" learning Biblical lessons and how they relate to the world in which we live in today. I take them back to the Hebrew and Greek, to the level of understanding depending on those in attendance, to "discover" how the Bible translates into our "world" and what that means for us today.

I look forward to hearing from you to learn how I may be able to help foster growth and encourage a determination for success and accomplishment!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

My oldest daughter is ADHD, which introduced me to the world of special needs. I have worked with special needs children for 24 years. Many of the children I teach in the community are ADHD.

Aspergers

My son is Autistic (high functioning), which was considered Aspergers until the DSM-5 "officially" did away with the term Aspergers. I currently home-school my son, as well as have taught and currently teach children on the spectrum for many years.

Bible Studies

I am a Certified Community Service Chaplain. I am also currently a seminary graduate student. I teach Biblical studies weekly to middle school and high school children in my community. I develop my own lesson plans. I do not use others' lesson plans, unless I utilize their thoughts and ideas, for which I give the author credit.

Business

My undergraduate degree is in Business Management and Human Resources. I've worked within operations and HR for nearly 25 years; hiring, firing, business planning, performance review, employee counseling, business development, and marketing.

Career Development

My undergraduate degree is in Business Management and Human Resources. I've worked within operations and HR for nearly 25 years; hiring, firing, business planning, performance review, employee counseling, business development, and marketing.

I have been a recruiter/headhunter for many years (contract basis). I currently am a freelance content writer for major job boards.

Marketing

I have marketing experience within profit and non-profit roles; whether it be ads, banners, email or flyer campaigns, business development, or community awareness initiatives. Also as a headhunter/recruiter, marketing was key in my success. It continues to be key to my success as a content writer.

Pharmacology

My training is specifically within Psycho-pharmacology; however that wasn't an option to select. My training has been within the mental health perspective, studying how prescription medication, alcohol, and illegal drugs interact and how they effect the physical and mental health as a whole. This training was conducted within graduate classes.

Public Speaking

I am a chaplain (I've preached in front of hundreds of people); I am a singer (I've sang in front of thousands at a time). I have training at the undergraduate and graduate level regarding the development of speeches and presentations.

Special Needs

I have worked with special needs children for nearly 24 years; verbal and non-verbal, physically disabled, mentally disabled, and children who required different learning styles including gifted students.
