I am very passionate about educating young students! I have a wide range of experience teaching creative writing and middle school science to 2nd-8th graders in a private homeschool tutorial, as well as every subject to K-3rd graders in inner-city public schools. For the past 2 years, I have taught students whose first language is not English (ELL) in Metro Public Nashville Schools.
Outside of teaching, I love running, hiking, and spending time with my husband and 3 year old daughter. With a 3 year old, I'm learning that teaching is not just a job, but a lifestyle! I love teaching my daughter at home, and hope to teach and watch other young minds grow and blossom through a deep understanding of foundational concepts.
I am currently teaching my daughter to read, but have taught 2nd and 3rd grade students that were 2 or more grade levels behind in reading. I've taught classes of 24 students, as well as small groups of 4-6 students.
I'm a certified teacher with 5 years of teaching experience. I hold a Master's degree in K-6 Elementary Education with a K-12 ELL endorsement.
I am currently teaching my daughter letter sounds and blending them to make words, but I have also taught this on a K-3rd grade level.
My goal is to build a solid foundation of education for young students. If that's what you want for your child, please contact me! I am very passionate about educating young students! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
