My background is one of a public servant. I have been a life long learning and often called a Projessor" and "Advocate" for those not empowered or knowledgeable about navigating different systems. I have been exposed to a variety of cultures and learning styles and educational levels. For the past four years I have taught English as a Second Language to incarcerated men and women. Prior to working with this population , I was employed with the Metro Davidson County Adult Education Office. During my employment with the Adult Education office, I completed the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute Certification program. I enjoy working with an adult population because of their desire to learn. These students know the value of education and seek to learn or improve their English skills to advance personal goals. It is rewarding to witness students confidence build and their improvement in their abilty to understand , speak , read, and write in English. All students come with life experiences and I learn from them just as much as I hope they learn from my classes.
I specialize in tutoring Conversational English, Business English, preparation for TABE, Adult Basic Education in prepartaion for the new HiSet/ GED test, Adult Workplace Bullying and Cultural Awareness classes. Whether the student is learning English to communicate better and assist children with their homwork or seeking a promotion on the job , each student is challenged. Each student is engaged in an appropriate individualized lesson planning that elicits communicative learning. Students are immersed in speaking English from the very beginning , even if it is learning the most basic ; the alphabets. Students are Pre-Tested and Post-Test every three to six months. I assign homework and regularly work one on one with each individual in the class. Students are consulted regularly to see if lessons and activities are meeting their needs.
Presently, I travel to three different facilities to teach ESL classes. I am working on securing a regular conference room within my radius. I am open to other suggestion for public meeting locations.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you acheive success in your personal goals. My background is one of a public servant. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
