Southwestern University (Psychology, Spanish)
Middle Tennessee State University (Master's)
Hi, I'm Kelsey! I am available as a tutor for a variety of academic subjects, including Spanish, Psychology, ESL, English grammar and writing, and Algebra, as well as sports, including running, swimming, and soccer. I completed a double major in Psychology and Spanish at Southwestern University, and subsequently spent a year teaching English as a second language in an elementary school in Granada, Spain. I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Middle Tennessee State University. I am fluent in Spanish, both spoken and written, and also have a great deal of experience with writing, editing and proofreading in English. In addition to my academic experience, I have been an athlete for over 20 years, my primary sport being soccer. I played soccer at the NCAA Division III level during college, and coached a youth soccer team during the spring of 2010. I have also been a runner and swimmer for many years, and have a strong knowledge of fitness and training techniques from training as an athlete myself.
My approach to teaching and tutoring is to engage students by making subject materials relatable and comprehensible to them. I believe that motivation is a key to learning, so I expect my students to be motivated and prepared to work, and try to motivate them as best I can by setting goals or offering small rewards for learning achievements. I like to make learning more fun by incorporating a variety of activities into a lesson or session, and am good at being patient and attentive to my students' needs. I tend to plan lessons/sessions according to the student's goals or school curriculum, and am flexible with the material that I can teach. It is most helpful to have an idea of what ideas or concepts the student would like to cover for each session, but I am also able to play things by ear if the student doesn't have a clear idea of what he or she would like to work on.
Any questions, please feel free to ask! Thanks! Hi, I'm Kelsey! I am available as a tutor for a variety of academic subjects, including Spanish, Psychology, ESL, … Read more
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a college soccer player (NCAA Division III) for 4 years and subsequently coached a youth soccer team, and still play regularly in several recreational leagues. I have attended numerous soccer camps over the course of my soccer career and can coach players to improve their tactical and technical skills, as well as their fitness. I enjoy working with youth and find it incredibly rewarding to see them improve and come to love the game of soccer.
