Our son scored a 90 on his Algebra II (honors) Final this week! Prior to working with Karen over the last 4 weeks he was struggling to pass the class, and has ended the semester strong. So we are very pleased! Karen provided excellent, practical help in breaking down the problems into manageable portions. She also provided help in test-taking strategy, and was accommodating to his class/sports schedule. Will definitely hire her for future classes!!

My son has had her for a tutor for over a year. She gives him confidence in a subject that he had none in before.

I am working on my MBA and was struggling with Economics so, sought out a tutor for help. Karen explained the concepts on a level where I could easily understand and as a result, which was a total game changer for me.

Karen is so helpful explaining statistics in a way that makes total sense. She edits what's really important and weeds out the rest. She has shown me how to apply the right equation to each problem. So much easier with her help.

Karen was extremely knowledgeable and did an awesome job covering the material. I would definitely recommend her to anyone needing help with economics.

Karen is a fantastic tutor ! I had no clue as to what I was doing in my grad level economics class. Karen explained it to me in about 40 mins and I understood completely. She is very good at what she does.

We enjoyed our first meeting with Karen. She was patient with my daughter and really helped. She also sent us some things to help her at home. Thanks Karen!

Karen is very easy to get along with and she transitioned immediately to get to work with me on the math section of the GRE. I have learned fractions, exponents and geometry and she has also helped me with strategies. I feel more confident in my math skills and her study plan for me in regards to the GRE. On problems that I was confused or didn't know the answer to (or in my case forgot since it has be awhile since I was in college), she was able to explain how to reach the solution in a quick, catchy and efficient manner. She is an awesome math tutor who I would recommend to anybody!

Had my first session with Karen last week. She was very accommodating on schedules and locations, which I appreciated. She really knows her stuff and I know that after these sessions I will have more self confidence as I go into the next ACT testing schedule. She also followed up after the session and sent me practice sheets to complete prior to our next session.

Karen is very patient. She is a great communicator and makes sure the subject matter is fully understood. She explains in a way the teacher does not so that geometry is almost easy.

We had special circumstances and Karen graciously rose to the occasion to meet with Josie at a later hour than normal in order to help her out. Such dedication, flexibility & willingness to go the extra mile for a student in need!

Karen was very easy to get along with and she transitioned immediately to get to work with our daughter. My daughter said she gave her very tangible ways to better understand what she is currently learning in her AP Math class. We look forward to seeing the outcome in our daughter's grades.

I learned fractions and lines. Also helped with strategies. I feel more confident in my math skills. She is a great tutor.

Karen helped me formulate a study plan for the math section of the GRE. With one day's notice, she had prepared ample exercises, which she had completed herself to make sure were correct, for our one hour session. On problems that I took too much time struggling with, she was able to explain how to reach the solution in a quick and efficient manner. Great math tutor.

Karen was very knowledgeable, professional and incredibly easy to work with. She really understood the material and, most importantly, helped me through all the content I needed to reach my goal.

I am just starting my statistics class and she really helped me get a great start with understanding the basics. I will be working with her throughout my class, she is amazing.

Karen has moved the needle in some very significant ways. The most obvious is the grade point swing in class work, exams, and End of Course test. My student looks forward to working with Karen, considering her a support vs. requirement. Perhaps, most significant was Karen's recognition that a lack of confidence was the biggest stumbling block. She established a connection that worked on the technical skills of Algebra while addressing confidence builders. Our family is externally grateful to have her.

Karen was an incredible tutor for my son, John. He was struggling with Statistics and failing the class. After a few short weeks with Karen he showed tremendous improvement and passed the course. We appreciate her!

Karen came into our lives mid-semester when my daughter was really struggling in her college microeconomics class and her information systems class. Karen was everything that I could have asked for in a tutor. She was always punctual and prepared and gave her full attention every time they met. She was always willing to find the time to work with our daughter not only on what she was studying currently in the class, but to also go back to previous concepts to improve her overall understanding of the subject. Her patience, knowledge and teaching expertise were exactly what our daughter needed! Karen spent as much time as necessary in order to improve my daughter's understanding of the concepts. With Karen's help our daughter was able to vastly improve not only her scores, but her understanding of economics. Karen is a God-send, and we look forward to her continuing to tutor our daughter as much as necessary throughout the rest of her college career. Thank you so much Karen for all of your help!

I felt Karen did an excellent job tutoring our son for the math portion of the ACT. In addition to being very knowledgeable in the subject area, she was a uniquely skilled teacher who was able to redirect our sometimes-distracted son with patience and firmness. Karen was always professional, organized, prompt for lessons, flexible with scheduling and overall easy to work with. In sum, my son and I both were highly impressed with Karen’s abilities and would recommend her without reservation.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have received above the 90th percentile in both the ACT and GRE math sections. I minored in math in undergraduate school and majored in economics in both undergraduate and graduate school, which is a subject which requires high levels of mathematics skills.

Algebra has always been one of my favorite subjects to do and teach. There are always so many different ways to find the value of an unknown variable and I love that all of them always come to the same conclusion. My students always tell me that I am very good at breaking down a complex problem into small steps, and the process of solving an algebra problem lends itself well to exactly this method. I look forward to helping you or your student with their algebra skills.

Algebra 2 can sometimes take students by surprise as it ramps up the difficulty level above that of algebra 1. I focus on taking what students have already learned in algebra 1 and showing them that they are still applying the same concepts to this more difficult problem.

I have tutored college students in intro and intermediate micro, intro macro, and intro econometrics. I have developed and taught my own Intermediate Microeconomics course on two separate occasions at Vanderbilt. I have also been the teaching assistant for Vanderbilt's Sports Economics courses for over 3 years.

While I have not tutored anyone on the GED exam before, I am qualified to tutor all of the math that is included on the exam. I have tutored for test prep for both the ACT and SAT math sections. I typically focus on 2-3 specific topics per week and provide review materials the next week to help you build up your overall skills with each topic on the exam.

I have tutored both high school and college students in geometry. Their goals have included improving grades for their class as well as improving their score on the ACT and SAT Math sections.

Standardized test preparation is all about gaining competency across a broad range of topics and being able to express that competency in a high pressure environment. The GRE is one of the highest levels of standardized tests, so the pressure is even higher. Tutoring for the GRE, I have worked with many current college students as well as adults with full time jobs who are wanting to change careers. My test prep tutoring style involves using a building blocks method over time using a plethora of practice problems. During each lesson, I will highlight one or two specific topics to focus on as homework for that lesson. After the lesson, I send the student some practice problems directed at those highlighted topics. I then ask the student to work through the practice problems and write down anything they think will help them solve similar problems on the exam. This material they've written down is called their memorization page and is built up over time to include all of the topics in the exam. In this way, the student has a succinct summary of content that they understand well to look through and review directly before the exam. This review sheet enables the student to build confidence right before the exam, because they can think back to all of the practice they have done for each subsection on their sheet.

I have been cross stitching for over 15 years. I am currently working on a 3' by 2' project which contains over 100 colors. I have taught multiple friends and colleagues how to complete small, simple projects to give as gifts at Christmastime.

Pre algebra is always fun to tutor. I have tutored both middle school and high school students in prealgebra. It is always fun to tackle concepts that will enable them to perform complex algebraic computations in the future.

I have tutored pre-calculus at both the high school and university level. I also have experience in many of the topics which have been reviewed previously such as algebra and trigonometry, which frequently come up in a pre-calculus course in a more complex way.

Probability tutoring is all about coming up with examples that make sense to the student and then showcasing how those examples can extend and apply to many other problems. Great examples using probability are everywhere: sports, game shows, games of chance, college acceptance rates, etc. I can always find a great example that appeals to the student I am working with in order to enhance their learning and comprehension of the material.

I have tutored university students in statistics on multiple occasions. I have also taken statistics courses at the high school, university, and graduate school level.

I participated in a club table tennis team in college which traveled to multiple tournaments. Using my tutoring skills, I am very good a breaking down what is occurring when you hit a shot and how to correct errors in technique.

I have always viewed trigonometry as a big puzzle. The puzzle pieces are things like the Pythagorean Theorem, the six trigonometric functions, SOH CAH TOA, and trigonometric identities. The difficult part of solving a problem in trigonometry is which puzzle piece to use at which time. I love working through the process of determining the proper puzzle piece and then putting it to use with students in order to solve complex trigonometric problems.
