At 23 years of age I was already working in France. Having lived in the Brittany region for 40 years lets me give a "glimpse" of the rich French culture as well as teach the basis of the language. I have spent those years teaching and doing public speaking in French, I feel that I can help students understand the culture as well as the grammar. My children were born in France, and I have a French daughter-in-law.
I graduated in the top three of my class in the "Institut Richelieu Lausanne" in Lausanne Switzerland. I obtained a Certificat de la Langue Française (2 year French degree earned in France- equivalent to the 4th degree of the Alliance Française) from the "Centre Enseignement du Français" Albertville, France. I studied one year in Université Rennes 2 in the "cours pour les étrangers." I have taught children, high school students and adults in French. For years I have been at the head of a French cultural association where I have had to direct business meetings in French. Here in the US, I have been a substitute teacher for French classes in the US.
I am interested in serious students of any age, and can arrange flexible hours and location of the tutoring. Several methods for learning a language can be used. Reviewing lessons learned in another context, learning and expanding basic general vocabulary. Anther method is giving out exercises and using these to expand grammar rules, vocabulary and French culture. Each student will be different with his or her specific needs. The first session was great. We went over the verb etre and read/ listened to news in French. I like how he was very easy to speak with and made me feel comfortable. I liked how I was given some tasks to help me along the path of becoming better in a language that I have come to love. I'm excited for our next lesson.
Jerry has decades of experience with the language behind him and is quite patient as well as easygoing when it comes to working with students.
He is very encouraging and focused right away on trying to determine my needs as a student. He put me at ease about my progress and I realize there is no judgement just opportunity to continue learning.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
