Hello, my name is Althea. I am a college graduate who enjoys teaching and tutoring English grammar and literature. I had learned Italian in order to communicate with my students more efficiently, who were unable to speak English fluently. Creativity is the way that I prefer to pass along new or old knowledge that students need. Even though learning English grammar can be quite a task, an open mind about your learning style can produce excellent results. I have taught multiple subjects in a charter school for children in grades 3 through 12 who were classified with special needs. Having also had some experience teaching English to adults, I am a very well-rounded teacher. Teaching summer classes for ESOL/ELL students was a fantastic challenge.
English Literature has always been fascinating to me. Shakespearean Literature is my favorite. Poems, tragedies, and comedies are riveting. I am able to tutor most any student who is studying the English language as well as English Literature. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I believe that I am qualified to tutor phonics because of my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. During this program I worked with clients who needed assistance with phonic or phonetic sounds. I also have a work experience background which includes elementary education.
I believe that I am qualified to tutor a student with Special Needs because of my educational background and experience. During my undergraduate education in Communication Sciences and Disorders, I took Special Education classes. I studied one year for a Master of Arts teaching degree with a Special Education focus. In the classroom I was an interim Special Education teacher in an inclusion setting, with my students needing assistance in reading comprehension and writing composition.
