I am very proud to have earned a degree from Vanderbilt because school did not always come easy to me which is one of my greatest gifts as a tutor. As a result of my struggles growing up, I'm able to empathize with any student who needs extra assistance learning a concept and grasping a subject. From my own personal and tutoring experience, I've learned different study techniques and can help students discover their best learning method. I'm passionate about teaching others and pride myself on being able to make any subject come alive so that it's relatable and exciting.
I've been certified for several history subjects on this site: American, European, Government, Politics, and World History. As well as English Literature and Geography. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began tutoring students for the english section of the ACT back in 2008. My first experience helping students improve their scores was at Pearl Cohn Comprehensive High School. Since then, I have continued to help students prepare for college entrance exams. I've had much success preparing students and helping them improve their writing and english for college level work as well. Through this site, I have tutored a college student and helped her improve her writing skills. She was able to help her improve her grades in Philosophy and Sociology a letter grade, due to the improvement of her papers. At Pearl Cohn, the student that I tutored was able to get the score she needed on her ACT to be the first one in her family to go to college.
I studied ballet for over eighteen years as well as other forms of dance such as jazz, lyrical, tap, hip-hop, and even clogging. I have a wide range of ballet training and experience: I've studied at Alabama Ballet as well as at The Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts in Torrington, CT. In addition to classical ballet schools, I've studied at different renowned studios in Los Angeles including the Edge Performing Arts Center. In addition to training, I've competed in several dance competitions all over the country as well as choreographed for dance studios, dance teams, and individual students. My teaching experience ranges from beginner to intermediate. I think of dancing as movable art and love to share this passion with others no matter the age or level.
I have a minor from Vanderbilt University in Music Literature. The bulk of my course work and interest is in American Vernacular Music starting from the 1920's till present day. However, I do have a foundation in classical music history. My scholastic passion is in music history and its' influence on society and have written syllabi for music history courses for colleges as well as for introductory programs for any age group.
I am a 2009 graduate of Vanderbilt University. The majority of my course load required a lot of writing as well as research. Due to the fact that the majority of my classes were humanities classes, I have a great deal of experience writing in many different styles - from Art History to Political Science. Since I'm a recent graduate, I'm still familiar with the type of quality that college professors, high school and middle school teachers expect. Last year, I tutored a Vanderbilt freshman (whom I met through this site) who needed help with her writing skills. She was able to raise her grade in Philosophy and Sociology by a letter grade.
