About William

I am honored to present my resume and application for your consideration as an English Instructor or tutor. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Lyon College and a Master’s Degree in English from University of Memphis.

Recently, I received a Second Master’s Degree in English and Pop Culture from Middle Tennessee State University. I have also worked as an adjunct instructor at Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma since January 2014.

As my class performance and work in teaching exercises should reflect, I believe have the necessary expertise in teaching English subjects from Composition on to many types of Literature. I believe I have the innovative teaching style to make an effective instructor and I would gladly appreciate the opportunity to personally assist students in their studies. I would encourage their ability to learn information on literature in various fields and genres and write effective and well-written essays.

My resume, transcript and essays demonstrate that I have a thorough understanding of many areas of literature. I believe I have the skills to discuss and gather information about a variety of literary subjects. As my former instructors can attest, I have a deep, long-abiding interest in the art of writing and literature, including current pop culture. Thus, I would prove a valuable asset in teaching the themes present in works both modern and historical.

Furthermore, my experience as an instructor at Motlow has aided me in understanding how to be an efficient and engaging teacher for my potential students; even those with disabilities and difficulties with understanding the subject matter. Furthermore, I believe in treating students as equals with the instructor and I will not demean those I am educating and will endeavor to help them bring out their abilities in the best way possible.
My strengths in educational works can be seen in my prior experiences, as well as my study in courses for Composition and Writing at MTSU as well as presentations on Pop Culture that I have given at several conferences. I have taught courses on Composition and World Literature to Freshmen College students at Motlow and to High school students., I hold an accredited diploma for teaching High School Students from MTSU. In the past, I have made use of Microsoft PowerPoint slideshows and other innovative methods of presenting course content. I hope that my work as an adjunct faculty member will prepare me to someday instruct on unique subjects that interest me personally. My goal is to engage and entertain the student while also fostering an appreciation for deep study of the subject.

My studies in Composition, Pop Culture, Romantic, Renaissance Literature and my knowledge of Humanities and Fine Arts would be successfully utilized. Furthermore, my minor in Theatre would be useful in assessing the themes of drama. I believe my work at Motlow State Community College has given me additional experience.

I can work with students online or in person in most any setting and I use a variety of materials including slides, video clips, interactive video or audio messaging and reading and writing samples. Please feel free to contact me if interested. I promise to do my best to helpful, informative, and engaging, and I am willing to work with you decide when the best time for both of us to schedule lesson times and methods. I look forward to hearing back and I am open to any questions you may have. Thank you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
