Hi! I am Kathryn. I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and secondary education. I am state certified and have a valid teaching license. I have been teaching for 35 years now in mostly private schools. With all this experience, I understand how students learn math. I have successfully helped students achieve their goals in basic math, Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. My favorite courses to teach are algebra, geometry and trigonometry. I believe that every student is capable of learning math through doing math. Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice makes permanent. In the early stages of learning a new math concept, the brain is being programmed. If a student does not do the problem correctly, then there is a flaw in the program. One can practice all day long and it will still come out wrong. This is why students must practice with correct methods. Perfect practice makes perfect. Many students struggle with math anxiety. All this leads to students feeling like they are "bad" at math. I offer strategies for overcoming these obstacles. Struggling is normal. I like to help re-program those negative messages to more positive ones like "math challenges me" and "I am capable". I believe with the proper coaching and encouragement that students can improve their skills and confidence.
I am available to tutor all year. From August to May I can tutor during the evening hours. I am pretty flexible during the summer to tutor during the day as well. I am easy to reach and I respond quickly to questions. I do ask for a 2 hour cancellation notice.
I look forward to helping you overcome your challenges in math. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Superb help with numerous Honors Algebra 2 problems from various chapters!
I was skeptical that online tutoring from a stranger would be beneficial because I met with a different tutor in person before and that tutor didn't know how to do the Algebra problems and couldn't help me but my mom had already paid the person. So I'm really glad it was such a positive experience with Kathryn; I learned so much and was so happy afterward because I felt much relieved about my upcoming final EOC. Kathryn is patient, explains things wells, and makes it seem easy. 9th grade student, PGWen, 1 lesson with KathrynTutor responded:
Thank you for the kind feedback! I am happy to help.
After two hours with Kathryn, my son scored a 90 on his first quiz! We look forward to working with Kathryn over the next few weeks. She took her time and explained the material so that he was able to understand the math.Anthony, 7 lessons with Kathryn
