I am very interested in working with you if you are curious to learn the Spanish language and get immersed in the Hispanic culture. I have been to Mexico three times, Germany twice. I have been using or been around the Spanish language for about 10-12 yrs. I deeply admire all cultures and their influence, in particular, the Hispanic cultures. Many Americans are aware of Mexico, Central America and South America, but are unaware that the U.S. is ranked as one of the top Hispanic Spanish-speaking countries (50,000,000+). This has increased 43% just as of last year, making 1 in 6 Americans Hispanic!
So, I am very excited and looking forward to inspiring you to learn more about the Spanish culture. My two previous years of teaching Spanish at the high school level and learning the language since 1999, should be of great benefit to you as we go forward. I previously was a volunteer interpreter at the JMCGH hospital in Jackson,TN and a member of Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish honor society). So, my experience varies as I also had two semesters of German and 1 summer at a German intensive language school in Hamburg, Germany (Tandem Hamburg).
My approach to tutoring is this, I think it is necessary to start with the basics and eventually move towards the goal of being able to converse and communicate when needed. The first level of Spanish presents a lot of basic vocabulary, along with basic grammar that is a stepping stone for the following levels which increase in difficulty, but allowing a person to learn more about conversation and the communication aspects of the language. I would originally start with lots of the basics and probably require at least 3-5 sentences (plus or minus) every week that are required to be spoken depending on the level and age group. Depending on interest, I generally start with a lot of the basics of vocabulary and grammar before mentioning cultural experiences, I.e--dance, gestures, slang, etc. Because of course the goal will be to speak and apply it.
If this sounds like it would be of great benefit to you, then I am definitely looking forward to assisting you.
If there is any way I can benefit you or your group, please don't hesitate to contact me! Dear students,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
