Hi I'm Ari! As a University student, I completed all math courses until the 400 level, alongside a major in psychology. When I tutor, I aim to teach a conceptual understanding instead of memorizing formulas or rules. This way the material stays with you for a long time after test day. I also try to supplement this understanding with fun tricks and mnemonics!

When I tutor, I aim to teach a conceptual understanding instead of memorizing formulas or rules. This way the material stays with you for a long time after test day. I also try to supplement this understanding with fun tricks and mnemonics!

I self-studied/crammed for the SAT, and ever since believed, the SAT is solveable: with proper coaching and practice, students should be able to significantly increase their scores, especially in the writing and math sections!
For SAT/ACT prep, I aim to work together to create a personalized approach, balancing the required high volume material, along with test-taking strategies and, when necessary, deeper understanding of the material. The end goal will be to confidently (with a little swagger) approach the SAT, unfazed and unsurprised by the questions, maximizing your score.
Whether you seek to improve a below-average or average score or desire to build upon your more advanced skills, this efficient, yet thorough, approach can be highly effective. I look forward to working with you to create a plan for success!

We will spend as little time as possible reviewing grammar, learning or relearning crucial fundamentals. Armed with a solid grasp of sentence structure, guesses become “gimees,” making this a quick and reliable way to improve your score. We will then supplement with a review of the uncommon grammar rules and strategize for the 5-7 conceptual questions.

First rule of the reading section: Every answer is proven from the the passage! Second rule of the reading section: Every answer is proven from the the passage!! The harder questions may seem subjective, with several tempting choices. Therefore, we will focus on learning tricks and and gain an overall understanding of the test to not only pick the correct answer, but eliminate the other choices. Just like "Waldo" is hidden amongst tempting imposters, the proof is tucked away somewhere - we got to find it!!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra I is very fast-paced and builds on itself throughout the year! For example, misunderstanding the role of the slope and Y intercept in a linear function will make polynomials difficult; It's very easy to get overwhelmed. We will focus on a conceptual understanding when important and supplement with tips and tricks, instead of remembering formula after formula. Furthermore, Algebra 1 is extremely important for the SAT, so sessions will introduce frequent SAT type questions.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Input Algebra I, insert math verbiage and devious tricks, wrap it in a word problem, time it, and out comes the SAT math section! We will “dust off” Algebra I and reinforce with a deeper (11th grade) understanding. Combined with test-taking strategies, this approach enables a high-level of success with the easy-medium problems (about 50/58), completing them efficiently and accurately. We can then prepare for the 7-10 more challenging problems, already having a solid foundation. This deeper understanding is especially important for the more recent SAT math sections, which while lighter on computation, both directly ask conceptual questions and has built in shortcuts for those who fully grasp the material.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

Compared to the SAT, ACT math less tricky, but is far more comprehensive and does not list common formulas on the first page. It's a 60 minute sprint with lots of opportunities for careless errors, so we will focus on understanding the 20-25 underlying techniques used in this section to accurately predict and solve the questions. At only 1 minute per question, time is definitely a factor, so practice is needed to do well!

Tremendous ability

Ari was able to quickly and completely ascertain my daughter's strengths and weaknesses, which he used to efficiently outline his plan for her success. The explanation of the plan was clear, concise and put us all on the same page. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of a tutor!
