About Montana

Hi, I'm Montana! I am a passionate high school teacher in Memphis with four years of teaching experience. With a liberal arts background from The College of William and Mary, I bring a strong love of learning to all of my classes and tutoring experiences. I firmly believe that all learning, even test prep, can and should be engaging for students! More recently, I earned my Masters of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University. This experience gave me a more formal background in education and has helped me drastically improve outcomes for students. I believe that all students can improve and achieve at high levels, and I am dedicated to constantly refining my skills as a teacher so that I can best help students.

As a high school teacher, I have taught a variety of subjects including environmental science, computer literacy, and ACT prep to all high school grade levels. For the past 3 years, I have taught a course called junior seminar, which is focused solely on ACT prep and college readiness. I have deep familiarity with all aspects of the ACT, and have guided each of my classes to dramatic ACT growth. This year, my students on average increased their composite scores an average of 3 points. I love seeing the satisfaction that students feel from unlocking the secrets of the ACT, developing strategies that work for their learning and test-taking styles, and ultimately seeing improvement.

On an individual basis, I am responsive to student needs. Students might need help in one or multiple ACT subjects, and I am always ready with resources, strategies, and supplemental information to support students in their desired areas of growth. I strive to make each tutoring session feel personalized.

I have taught ACT Math content in a classroom setting for three years, and have tutored dozens of students individually in ACT Math as well. My students average a two point gain on the ACT Math section.

ACT Science is my favorite section, and I personally earned a 35 on the Science section when I took the ACT as a student. My students average 2.5 points of growth on the ACT Science section.

I am a grammar nut! I love teaching the ACT English section because it gives me a chance to delve into grammar and punctuation rules with students. My students average a 4 point gain on the ACT English section, and a 3 point gain on the ACT Reading section.

ACT growth is possible! I have worked through countless ACT exams with hundreds of students, so you can be confident that with me as your tutor, you will be working with a seasoned professional. I am easy to reach and always provide fast responses. Please contact me with questions or to set up your first session!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

As a full-time ACT prep teacher in a local high school, I am well-versed in the ACT English standards. My students average 4 points of growth on the English section of the exam. There are several key topics including style, punctuation, and grammar that are heavily tested on the ACT English section. I am able to build students ability to navigate these concepts and successfully apply their understandings to the ACT English section.

ACT Math

I have taught and tutored students on dozens of ACT Math exams, and the more you practice ACT Math, the more you realize that the ACT asks similar questions over and over again. Key pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry questions appear on each exam. With this knowledge, I have been able to help students consistently improve their ACT Math score by an average of 2 points.

ACT Reading

Over the past three years, I have helped students navigate the ACT Reading section. Don't be intimidated by the lack of time on this test. By learning your strengths, I can help you build your speed and strategy for this challenging section. My students improve their ACT scores an average of 3 points!

Great Teacher

Montana did a great job . I can't wait to do another session with her. I really believe my score will increase. Montana seem to really enjoy what she's doing. That really helps that she have a lot of confidence in me.
