About Jordan

I love learning. My love of learning is what drew me to education. I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education with minors in English, Sociology, and Child Development from the University of Memphis.

I obtained my minors by accident because I enrolled in the majority of those elective classes because they intrigued me and I ended up with enough credits to have them as my minors! My favorite subjects are math, spelling, and reading (I think I have read the Harry Potter series about 10 times now). I have always loved children and working with them. I was a cheerleading coach and also tutored as my main form of income throughout my college years.

I love tutoring because I love having one-on-one time with students. In my experience, children flourish when having time with an educator focusing on their studies in conjunction with working in the classroom. I have found that the classroom offers an overview of a subject while tutoring gets into the finer details of understanding a subject more in-depth. Students that I have tutored in the past have managed to get ahead because I also make time to help them with their organizational skills and planning ahead.

Now that I have graduated college, I work for ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The idea of helping raise funds for children fighting catastrophic diseases amazed me and I ended up in nonprofit as opposed to education. I heard of online tutoring and I immediately jumped on this opportunity hoping to fulfill the need to educate and work with children more directly. I look forward to possibly working with your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have tutored multiple children failing elementary and middle school math with them becoming very proficient and even honors students. I have my BS in education and took multiple courses in how to teach math in different ways.

ESL/ESOL

I have studied education at University of Memphis and took courses on teaching ESL students.

Handwriting

I studied elementary education where we had a class solely focused on improving handwriting of our students. I also tutored a young boy and we spent a portion of our time to work on his handwriting (his original penmanship grade was a C- and after a few lessons he went up to a B).
