About Todd

I'm from Jonesboro, AR originally, but have been a Memphian for six years. I loved studying politics growing up, and never left Political Science from the moment I declared my major freshman year. Arkansas State was a great experience, and I'm still considering getting my Master's in Political Science eventually. Currently, In my free time I love to read, cycle, play guitar, and just spend time with my wife, Charity.

English comes naturally to me. Grammar, spelling, and graduate level writing are all among my strongest assets. 29 in English ACT, frequent reader, high scores in college English/lit classes, and a strong analytical/conceptual mind. My 3.6 GPA at the Master's level (not completed, but in progress) is due in large part to my strong writing and critical thinking skills. At the end of my undergraduate studies, I was presented with the opportunity to study quantitative political analysis at Oklahoma State University, but the opportunity didn't work out. However, this still remains a strong interest of mine and may be my future career.

I had a 3.5 GPA in Political Science for my Bachelor's in college. I specialized in quantitative political analysis and comparative politics. Dabbled in legal reasoning and history. I spent some on my University's debate team and traveled the country competing in both regional and national tournaments. I collected speaker awards and a chance to compete in the national tournament at the end of my freshman year. I was consistently among the top among others in the Political Science department in regards to research and presentation skills. My strongest courses were International Politics, Comparative Politics, Legal Reasoning, English, and History. I took a few economics and philosophy courses that were also within my strengths, but didn't pursue anything long term in those disciplines.

Contact me if you're wanting/needing a tutor who can communicate clearly and effectively and put your needs first. Practical results will follow (higher scores, better study skills, a firm grasp of the concepts, and greater confidence)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

29 on English ACT, higher than 90% of students at the time. High grades in college level English lit and writing classes.

Baseball

I have 13 years of playing experience in the sport of baseball, as well as 1 year of umpiring experience. I have been offered coaching jobs, and have been coached by former MLB players. I was the starting shortstop for a state championship runner up team in 2005, and started again my senior year. Though my batting skills were lacking, my fielding percentage was consistently among the top among my peers. I am still in playing shape and keep up with the sport, and know how to spot talent at any level (high school and under), and I know what it takes to develop the fundamentals of the sport and to take your game to the next level.

Bible Studies

I have completed 35 hours of Graduate Biblical Studies courses with Reformed Theological Seminary, and have spent 9 years intensely studying the Bible. My Graduate level GPA is 3.6, and my greatest strength is writing on theological topics. I have a strong knowledge of both the text of the Bible as well as the historical and literary contexts that surrounds the Bible.

Fitness

My training in fitness is holistic and consistent. I was a two sport athlete in high school and began competing in triathlons during college. I have competed in a half marathon, 4 triathlons, numerous 5k's, 2 century bike rides, a 50 mile bike ride, and am active in a number of sports hobbies. I still swim, bike, and run, and am planning on competing in triathlons again in the Spring of 2017. I understand the basic dietary needs of endurance athletics, and know the details of preparation required for endurance events and an overall healthier lifestyle.

Guitar

I have played guitar for 16 years, and have introduced a number of family and friends to the instrument. In college, I taught a number of friends the basics of guitar, and played in a guitar orchestra during my very short classical training. I am not a skilled classical player. My teaching abilities range from beginner-intermediate, and include both acoustic and electric players. I can teach you how to read tabs, develop your strum rhythm, understand chords, intermediate picking, and how to capture the clearest sound. I have played in various musical groups and have spent time on stage performing in front of people. My genres include blues, rock, indie, and slight country.

Political Science

I had a 3.4 GPA during college as a Political Science major. I specialized in Comparative Politics and Quantitative Political Analysis utilizing social science statistics programs. I am a former Model UN member and Debate team member of Arkansas State University. I was among the top in my classes when presenting research and theories. I earned high marks in International relations, legal reasoning, American government, American politics, Politics of the Middle East, and Democratization Studies.
