About Brendalyn

I am now teaching in the prison system. I have been an instructor for over 40 years and I have enjoyed teaching adults as well as children.I taught in Memphis City Schools for 10 years and in 1986 I moved to Arlington, VA and worked for D.C. Dept. of Corrections as a correctional officer and worked my way up the ladder.

I retired in 2006 from FCI Forrest City. I really enjoy teaching and I know that I can help some one with schooling.Language Arts is my favorite subject and Social Studies. While living on the east coast my husband and I traveled weekly to see different things that were offered on the East Coast. I enjoy traveling and we have a pet puppy Sage. I know that I can really help anyone that needs to be helped and I hope that I am chosen for the job.

I have taught students and I have had men in the prison system that could not read or write and with time and patience they did learn to read and write. My ability to be patient with adults and children has been a blessing for me all of my life.

Spelling is one of my favorite subjects. I give my men spelling test weekly and they hate it sometimes because I insist on spelling. You cannot read or write without spelling. This I do daily with the adult men that I teach now in the prison system.

If you want your child to succeed in school please consider me as a tutor for your child. I have a BA in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Adult Learning. I am definitely qualified.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I am teaching Common Core in the prison system as I am writing. I have been teaching for 42 years. My licenses are up to date and they have never expired.
