About Margarita

Reading and writing are my two great loves. I started reading from an early age and consider myself a voracious reader. Due to my love of literature, I obtained my BA in Literature from the State University of New York, College of Purchase.

Another one of my great joys in life is tutoring high school and college students to help them develop their reading and writing skills. These skills require a great deal of practice and commitment. I am well-versed in these skills having spent many years as a staff editor in NYC developing teaching and student textbooks and educational products for McGraw-Hill, Scholastic, and Pearson Education.

I have successfully tutored students in reading and writing skills for the past three years. I developed my own lessons using classic American short stories to help students develop their close-reading and writing skills. I find this work to be very rewarding and deeply fulfilling.

I also possess expertise in teaching ESL students how to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Learning English correctly requires a dedicated tutor and instructor who understands how to customize each lesson. I taught mixed-level ESL classes at Queens Community House for three years. I obtained a TEFL/TESOL Teacher Training certificate in 2009.

I know how to help students develop the confidence and test taking skills necessary to perform well on the high school equivalency test such as the Hi-SET Exam.

Whether you are a high school, college student, or immigrant, I have the experience and dedication to work with you individually to help you improve in English.

I am enthusiastic, innovative, and patient.

Please let me know what times and days work for you. My schedule is flexible.
I look forward to meeting with you.

Thanks!
Margarita

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a TEFL/TESOL Certificate, Oxford Seminars, December 2009. I have a Literacy Partners Tutoring Training Program Certificate, February 2013. I have experience preparing Students for the GED and Other High School Equivalency Exams Using the Common Core State Standards, September 2013
