About Jeannine

I am currently both a student and a teacher. I homeschool my 11 year old who has Asperger's and other learning challenges while I complete a dual Master's program in Curriculum and Instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, the (Fine and Liberal) Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), and Environmental Education. I expect to graduate in May of 2017. I am also a Cub Scout Den Leader, Docent at Shelby Farms Park, and Educator at the Memphis Botanical Gardens. I am a Certified TN Naturalist and Member of the TN Ornithological Society.

I really enjoy working with students in my outdoor classrooms helping them understand how to apply concepts and implement the skills they read about and begin to develop in more traditional settings. However, the reality is we live in a world of high stakes testing. Each student must be able to function independently in every situation, especially during testing because this greatly affects their ability to enter college and obtain funding. I would like to enable every student to perform to his or her potential by being a personal tutor to help each individual succeed in the ability to practically use their knowledge and skills when they have the need.

It is also extremely important for the individual student's self confidence to develop these fundamental skill sets prior to moving into functional application settings with their peers. This is the time in their lives where students learn how to succeed. I enjoy being a trusted part of the discovery of the inherent differences, talent, capability, and intellect within each student that will lead them to their greatness.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have a BBA with a dual major in Finance and Real Estate. I am currently completing a dual MEd in STEM and Environmental Education. I have a firm foundation in mathematics skills, concepts and real world applications.

Autism

I will complete a dual M.Ed. in C&I in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) Education and Environment Education in April. According to relevant research, students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, like my son, tend to gravitate toward STEAM fields in college and careers. However, many of them are functionally ill prepare for the classroom or job setting because they are unable to acquire the fundamental skill sets needed in primary and secondary school classrooms. As the mother and homeschool teacher of child with several disorders on the Spectrum, I understand how to approach a child with learning differences inside the classroom and out. I know what it takes to set them on the path to independent learning. I know that it is different with each child.
As the parent and homeschool teacher (2nd through 5th grades) of a child with Aspergers (ASD), ADHD, sensory integration and visual integration challenges, mild dyslexia, as well as a host of health issues, I am uniquely qualified on this subject.
I correlate all my lesson plans to CCSS and NGSS and have since I began homeschooling. My teaching style is tailored to the individual learning needs of my student(s).

Botany

I correlate all my lesson plans to CC State Standards and NextGen Science Standards and have since I began homeschooling and tutoring. Also, my teaching style is tailored to the individual learning needs of my student(s).
I will complete a dual M.Ed. in Curriculum and & Instruction in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) Education and Environmental Education in the Spring of 2017. I am a member of the Tennessee Ornithological Society and a Certified Tennessee Naturalist, very comfortable in the arena of citizen science.

For 5.5 years, I also was the editor and graphic artist of the quarterly newsletter for the SCSO, then the fifth largest sheriff's department in the U.S.
