Hello! I hope that I can assist with your tutoring needs. I have over fifteen years' experience as a college teacher of theatre and dramatic literature, as well as writing and public speaking. I hold a Ph.D. from the City University of New York. I have taught at the University of Memphis and Rhodes College, as well as Hunter, Queens, Bronx Community, and Marymount Manhattan Colleges in New York City.
While the majority of my experience is with college students, I have also taught learners of all ages throughout my career. In every teaching situation I encounter, I try to share my passion for the subject and help students to achieve their best.
Writing assignments, analysis of literature, and public speaking have been major components of many of the courses I have taught. I guide students through a variety of exercises based on their needs in order to improve their efforts in creative, expository, or persuasive writing. I love finding a way to discuss literature so that a student can relate directly to the characters and themes involved. Finally, through teaching diction and acting, I have helped students to develop confidence while speaking in front of others and expressing themselves creatively.
With a doctorate in theatre and more than thirty years' experience acting and directing on stages in New York City and Memphis, theatre is my main passion. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my love for the art of theatre with students and collaborators alike, whether it is as a teacher, scholar, or practitioner. I have taught acting, voice and diction, introductory theatre courses, theatre history, and dramatic literature to students of all ages.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Several courses that I have taught dealt with speaking in front of others. At Bronx Community College, I taught a course entitled "Voice and Diction: Business and Professional Speech," in which students learned correct speech sounds for the professional world and practiced them in an oral presentation and a mock job interview. I have also taught many acting classes where students had to perform a memorized monologue or scene before a live audience. In fact, most of my classes have had some kind of oral presentation component for which I provide detailed feedback for improvement, both in the moment and in writing afterwards.
Theatre has been my passion for many, many years. I have been acting for over thirty years and directing for over fifteen years in professional, educational, and community environments in New York City and the Memphis area. I have taught acting at the University of Memphis and at Playhouse on the Square. Other theatre courses I have taught include Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History, Play Analysis, American Drama, World Theatre, and Performance Fundamentals. I earned my Ph.D. in Theatre from the City University of New York.
