I love Spanish! I specialize in teaching all things Spanish.
My first language is English. I was born in the USA to American parents. However, I had the opportunity to spend six of my growing-up years in Spain. Since then I have been hooked! I studied Spanish in high school, I majored in Spanish for my bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, in Spanish and Hispanic Studies from Auburn University for my master's degree, and completed 30 hours beyond my master's in education from Cumberland University. I have taught Spanish for over 20 years total, including at the University level, for a public school system in Memphis at the high school level, online classes, and private and small group tutoring. I am certified and highly-qualified to teach Spanish in grades 7-12 in the State of Tennessee.
I have taught all levels of Spanish classes: Spanish 1-4 (standard and honors), Spanish for business, and AP Spanish language. I have helped students improve in all areas of learning Spanish, from basic vocabulary and grammar to advanced conversation, listening comprehension, composition, and literature analysis. I have helped students prepare for standardized tests such as the STAMP and AAPPL tests, the advanced placement Spanish Language Exam (high school), as well as for students entering university to "test out" of foreign language requirements. In addition, I am available to tutor students at all levels of college or university Spanish. I can also tutor candidates seeking teacher licensure to prepare for the PRAXIS Exam.
My goals as a private tutor is to meet the needs of the student, to keep the tutoring sessions fun but challenging, and to get results! Each student is different and has different needs and goals. Everything I do as a tutor, from the activities we do during the session, to any homework given to be completed after the session, to periodic assessments and progress reports, are determined by the needs and goals of the student and/or parent.
I am a professional educator, and hold myself to high standards. I seek feedback to make sure that the student's needs are being met, and to improve my service.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. That said, I do try to be flexible with time when necessary, and offer makeup sessions.
I am available to tutor in your home or in a convenient public space.
I look forward to hearing from you to discuss your Spanish needs and goals. I would like to work with you to help you achieve your goals concerning Spanish. I love Spanish! I specialize in teaching all things Spanish.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
