About Emily

Hi! I'm Emily, RN, BSN, and this is why I should be your NCLEX tutor:

I believe in working smarter not harder! I guarantee to make the most out of our time together by focusing on the tools you need to PASS! I'll teach you HOW to choose the correct or best answer, even if you lack or have no knowledge pertaining to the question. Other things we will focus on are key subjects and concepts that run throughout the exam. I always develop a personalized study plan and schedule designed to meet each students particular needs. If you studied hard in nursing school and are dedicated to preparing for the NCLEX, have some faith in yourself! You will pass! And if you've failed.. We'll address your areas of weakness first, then review the content areas you scored above or near passing.

Here's a little bit more about myself. I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at the University of Mississippi. I have over 3 years of nursing experience in the areas of cardiovascular and dialysis nursing, and I am applying to begin a master's program for FNP this fall. I worked as a RN in the CVIMU at The Methodist Hospital-Med Center for two and half years. While in nursing school, I was selected as 1 of 20 applicants among a group of 400 to extern at TMH in the Medical ICU. The following year, I externed in the Neurosurgical ICU at UMC in Jackson, MS. After graduating, I worked as a dialysis nurse for 6 months in MS, got married, moved to Houston, and began working at Methodist. Now, back to why I can help you pass the NCLEX.

To prepare for the NCLEX I took an online review, and I passed after answering 75 questions.
I scored in the 96th percentile nationally on my first HESI exam. It was the first test HESI came out with.
I passed my exit HESI exam on the first take. I also scored in the 99th percentile on Baptist's College of Nursing's entrance exam. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

NCLEX

In order to practice as a Registered Nurse, one must pass the NCLEX. The number of questions given is directly related to the amount of "difficult" questions that are answered correctly. Once someone either answers enough "hard" questions correctly or incorrectly, the test shuts off. Usually, having to answer a lot questions means you're not answering enough of them correctly. The amount of questions ranges from 75-265. I have been a Registered Nurse for over three years. I passed my NCLEX in one attempt after answering the minimal amount (75) of questions to determine my competency. I believe I have the knowledge, background, and passion to help others prepare and pass the NCLEX.

Pharmacology

I have been in the medical profession as RN for over 4 years. As a dialysis nurse I was appointed to dose patients medications, and as a cardiovascular/EP nurse I titrated drips and administered multiple IV and PO medications daily. I am ACLS certified (which requires knowing multiple drug algorithms in the event of a code blue situation). I made an A in pharmacology while in nursing school and passed the pharm. HESI on the first attempt. As a CV nurse I educated patients on Warfarin/Lovenox/ ASA therapy, beta blockers, antidysrythmics, statins, along with oral and injectable diabetes medications. I believe its very important students understand how the drug works in the body so they can provide the most competent hands on care.

Piano

Playing the piano is my passion. I have 20 years of experience playing, and 11 years of formal training. In the second grade, my mother began taking me to weekly piano lessons after school, which I continued to take until I graduated. I was chosen as "Piano Student of the Year" among 100+ students my sophomore year of high school. I've had the honor of playing the piano for my church, weddings, graduations, and for my sorority during RUSH week. I can read, teach, and transpose written music. I can also play by ear and teach chords.
