About Rhonda

I have worked with children for more than fifteen years. I have worked with children with special needs for more than seven years. I currently work in a public school and my students are elementary age children. The students are mildly handicapped and have intellectual disabilities. I modify lessons so that they learn such things as reading, math, science, social studies and handwriting. I also teach from their IEP. Some of the students are autistic and developmentally delayed.

I have also worked with students with physical handicaps. I love children and I love to see them feel success. Success is possible with some help and understanding. I am patient and eager to help your child achieve. I believe one on one instruction is good to help the student focus on individual skills. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Special Needs

I have worked with students with physical and mental disabilities. I have a master's degree in special education. Children with special needs require one-on-one instruction and in some cases they need help with hand over hand activities.

I currently work with children who have mild intellectual disabilities including autism and developmentally delays. We work on phonics, writing, math and reading. We do such things as learning the alphabet and their sounds, blending the sounds to make words and then making sentences. Programs can be implemented to increase reading fluency.

I teach math skills with simple one to one correspondence as well as simple addition with and without regrouping and subtraction. Also, other math skills such as fractions and graphs. Math can be learned by using manipulatives and other tips such as touch math.
