Hi, even though I have recently retired, I have a lot of energy and support to help students who need extra help. I am known by my students to be funny, engaging, patient and still maintain high standards. I have an excellent rapport with parents and can articulate student's progress and challenges. My experience covers over 15 years of elementary education in a highly regarded school district. I was also the school building representative for my district. In addition, I have also mentored student teachers with great results. I am able to meet you in a library, or you can come to my home. I look forward to having the opportunity to be part of your child's education. Thank you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an elementary public school teacher for over 15 years in the Bloomfield Hills District, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. I have just recently retired but wish to continue working with students to help them achieve success. I am certified to teach K-5 plus I have an Early Childhood Endorsement.
I am highly qualified to teach k-6 math. I have taught elementary school math for over 15 years. I am especially familiar with Everyday Mathematics Curriculum.
After teaching for over 15 years, I have incorporated grammar into my language arts lessons. Not only did I teach grammar as a separate subject, I would also incorporate grammar into writing workshops and reports. Grammar is critical to making sure students' work is understood by the audience.
While I was an elementary school teacher, I taught handwriting using the Handwriting Without Tears program which I found to be user-friendly and helped children with their fine motor skills. I taught both printing and cursive.
I am highly qualified to teach reading and comprehension skills to elementary school students. I have worked with various types of literacy programs and my students learned fluency and comprehension skills in my classroom. We also focused a lot of time on non-fiction text and learned how to interpret graphs and other ways to present information.
I taught study skills while teaching test taking skills during elementary school. Also, I taught how to understand what is the main idea and supporting details when interacting with non-fiction.
Writing workshops formed a large part of my language arts program. We tried to write in our journals everyday based on field trips, reading excellent children's stories, and reading non-fiction texts such as Scholastic News. I encouraged creativity, good leads, and vivid details in my students' writings.
