Hello, my name is Terri D. I have 10 years of experience working in both the Rutherford County and Metro Nashville School Systems. I have had a great deal of experience working with General Education grades K-6 as well as with special needs students. My husband and I have lived in the area for 25 years. We have 3 teenagers! One is 18-years-old and just graduated from Lancaster Christian Academy. We also have twins, who are 15 years old and attend a local high school.
I enjoy teaching all subjects but most especially enjoy Reading and Language Arts. Currently I am teaching a special research based reading program called READ 180 which was co-written and developed by Vanderbilt University Professors and is sponsored by Scholastic. In addition, I also teach a phonics based reading program called System 44. I have been so fortunate to have been trained in some of the most advanced, research based curriculum and strategies while also using this knowledge daily to see true progress and with my students
I am very passionate about the importance of every student learning the proper use of English grammar! I try to instill the interest in learning correct grammar and why it is personally important to them and their future. Research has proven that there is also a direct correlation between the size of a person's vocabulary and their success in college, as well as their future success.
I believe it is very important to ensure that students do have thorough instruction in phonics in the stages in which it is best understood. I have had extensive training in phonics instruction. I have taught first grade in the past and am now teaching System 44 phonics.
I have a Masters in Teaching from Trevecca Nazarene University. I have taught in both Rutherford and Davidson County. I have also had experience and huge success in private tutoring. I would be happy to provide a reference.
Each and every person has their own personal learning style! I consider it so very important to determine what strategies work best for you as an individual! I will meet you where you are in the particular subject area we will be working on. We will then design an individual personal plan to get you where you need to be! Sometimes one on one instruction from the right teacher is all it takes to quickly get you up to speed in any subject so that you can continue to build on that knowledge in the next school year! Contact me today so that we may discuss the skills or subjects that you would like to work on. Hello, my name is Terri D. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
