I've been studying Latin since 2009. I earned my BA in Classics from UT, graduating with highest honors not only as the top Latin student, but also as the top student in the Humanities. I've also received awards for top placement in national Latin translation contests at both the intermediate and advanced levels.

As an autodidact and life-long learner, I've always found intellectual pursuits most fulfilling. Figuring out how to teach myself, which was a slow and arduous process, has given me insights into how best to teach others. The current research on secondary-language acquisition and pedagogy has convinced me that languages are best learned by use, so I prefer to speak Latin aloud with students and provide lots of examples for each concept, allowing them to meaningfully engage with the language as a form of communication, not simply an artifact to be decoded. This is the way one develops implicit knowledge instead of relying solely on rote memorization. Tutoring enables me to pass on my hard-won knowledge to others and to share the joy I feel about these subjects. I firmly believe that education shouldn't simply be about test scores, but understanding and appreciation.
I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students. Please don't hesitate to reach out and schedule a session. I look forward to helping you on your journey in the study of Latin and classical antiquity!
