For reading, My emphasis is on fluency, accuracy, comprehension, efficiency, vocabulary, and spelling. My focus in college was correcting reading disorders. I have had quite a bit of training in phonics and handwriting. I also enjoy teaching parts of speech for ELA.
I have a lot of experience with students who are on the spectrum and those with ADHD. I tutor children (and adults) with dyslexia and dyscalculia. I enjoy working with children who really struggle with math and/or reading. It feels like a puzzle to me, to find the missing pieces that fill in the gaps that open the gate to understanding.
I received my degree in elementary education and I am passionate about tutoring elementary and middle school math and reading. I also help students with science and social studies, and I often find that the root of the problem is in reading comprehension and vocabulary. Many of my students are in public school, some are in private schools, and I also enjoy working with homeschoolers on exactly what their parents request.
