About Benjamin

Went to school in Raleigh and got my BS and MS in engineering science and mechanics (a very math intensive major) from Virginia Tech. I also double minored in both Mathematics and Physics as an undergrad and graduated Summa Cum Laude.

I have spent summers at VT doing research and tutoring college students on the side. In addition, I was part of the Galileo living learning community as well as stayed on campus through my junior year so I am very accustomed to helping others with class work.

For physics, I can help anywhere from middle school physics up through Quantum Mechanics (grad level).
For math, I can help anywhere from algebra up through Perturbation Methods (grad level).

Personally, I have a passion for lifelong learning and would like to demystify the world of math and physics to help others, if nothing else, understand that it is not magic or even all that difficult. I also enjoy sports and have been very active and health conscious my whole life.

I have a minor in mathematics and my major is extremely math intensive. I have learned the WKB method which is a hallmark of modern quantum physics during my graduate course: Perturbation Methods.

Personally, I am very bright but (especially early on in Algebra) struggled to grasp the logic behind it due to the teacher's style not working well for me so I know that even smart kids need help when they feel lost.

I specialize in helping people critically think their way through a problem so that when I am not there, they will have the confidence to approach problems they have not encountered before. If the student is bright but just can't seem to grasp the concepts (due to the learning environment or an approach which does not work well for them), I strongly encourage you to contact me.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linear Algebra

I have a master's in Engineering Science and Mechanics from VT. As a freshman, I took Elementary Linear Algebra and got a high A. In addition, in later classes such as vibrations, dynamics, quantum mechanics, and perturbation methods, we also used linear algebra.
